POSITION SUMMARY:
Assist with care of patients of all ages in the emergency department in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. Under close supervision, provides technical support for physicians and nurse in the Emergency Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform various functions as a member of the trauma response teams including but not limited to: setting up I.V.'s, placing patient on monitor and setting up pleurovacs. Assist professional medical personnel in emergency treatment as directed. Document care provided/Vital Signs in EMR or paper documentation. Assists emergency physicians by obtaining necessary materials for suturing, dressings and performs basic splinting on fingers, shoulders or ankles. Stocks unit supplies and reports defective equipment. Monitor equipment and inventories supplies to maintain proper inventory levels. Transport patients to appropriate areas of care and assists with loading and unloading of patients. Assists with preparation for transfer of patients from ED to include making copies of chart, lab and x-rays. Assists with room/cart preparation and cleaning between patients. Empties sharps containers when indicated. Assist with undressing and dressing of patients and toileting of patients. Performs finger sticks bedside glucometer testing as directed by RN or Physician. Collaborates with RN and physician to keep patients and families updated every 15 minutes when there is a delay in the progression of their care. Attempts to keep patients waiting in the lobby updated at least every 30 minutes as to how long their wait may be. Accurately performs EKGs with physician order. Obtains weights on all pediatric patients, obtains weight on adults as per RN or physician. Makes periodic checks of lobby to check for cleanliness and any potential problems. Provides safe environment for all patients (i.e.: side rails) and provides increased attention to those patients who require observation and/or restraint (i.e.: assures that children are not left unattended) Identifies patient alarms and reports immediately to RN. Answers call lights promptly and summons appropriate staff as needed. Answers telephone calls and directs call to appropriate personnel Assists physicians and nursing personnel with procedures as directed to include, but not limited to holding of instruments, stabilizing of extremities and adjusting of lighting Participates in staff meetings and hospital wide in-service programs as required Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assist in providing care appropriate to the ages of the patients served (Neonate to Geriatric) within the department Maintains performance in compliance with State and Federal laws, and consistent with high standards of business and professional ethics Participates in staff meetings and hospital wide in-service programs as required Work within role of ER Technician, which may not include all of the roles within their

Operate equipment such as computers, printers, copy machines, calculator, IV pumps, and suction equipment to name a few. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information.
