Job Description

Job Summary:
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Paramedic performs a variety of direct and indirect patient care duties and delivers processional care to acutely ill patients (pediatric, adolescent, adult, or geriatric). Effectively interacts with the patient, significant other(s), and other health team members while maintaining standards of professional care. _____________________________________________________________________
Essential Job Duties:
1. Adheres to the mission, philosophy and standards of the nursing department and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing department. 2. Verifies and carries out physicians' orders in an accurate and timely manner. 3. Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs, focuses on biophysical, environmental, self-care and discharge planning needs. Formulates a focused plan of care which is prioritized and based on nursing standards. 4. Identifies the learning needs of patients/significant other(s) and implements appropriate measures to meet those needs. 5. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patients' rights as identified within the hospital. 6. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care. 7. Reports in a timely manner to the appropriate person(s) outcomes as well as any pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients. 8. Performs documentation in patient records in a timely, accurate concise matter. 9. Participates in patient safety/maintenance of a clean and safe environment. 10. Demonstrates applied knowledge base of skills in areas of standards, patient care resources, procedures/policies, medications, and significant lab values. 11. Actively assumes personal responsibility for ongoing education and professional development. 12. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner. 13. Establishes and maintains open and effective communication, uses line of authority appropriately. 14. Adheres to attendance and dependability standards and uses hospital time wisely. 15. Promotes and maintains a professional image of the unit, nursing department and hospital. Conforms to dress code. Paramedic role and responsibilities in the Emergency Department Paramedic job role and responsibilities are included but not limited to: Patient Transport Initiate and discontinue IV Medication administration Documentation of all medication and treatments given Take orders for the physicians, PA's and Nurse Practitioners Equipment Rhythm Disturbances ACL's protocols Obtain VS Oxygen application Airway suctioning EJ's Assist with procedures Monitor critical patients Documentation of care delivered Draw lab (IV) Splinting Restocking rooms Triage assignment Patient report Decontamination EKG Lift and roll assistance Valuables Assist getting patients out of automobiles Assist with helipad Performs any special assignments as delegated by the
Director of Nursing Job Specification:
Requires current license as a Paramedic in the state of
Oklahoma Education/Training:
Current license is required. Current BLS certification is required. Current ACLS is required. Current PALS is required. Basic computer skills.
Skills:
Maintains a high degree of credibility, independence, integrity, confidentiality and trust. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.
Physical Effort:
Must be able to stand and traverse 50% of the time. Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery. Frequently position self to provide patient care and lifting up to 50 lbs. to a height of 3-4 feet and to traverse inside the hospital.
