Non-Exempt Position Summary:
To work as part of a team. Perform clerical tasks. Perform related duties as required. To work with service providers to ensure specimens are checked prior to leaving unit. To maintain a safe working environment by adhering strictly to health and safety policies and procedures. To collaborate with procedure room staff.
Major Duties/Critical Tasks:
Under general supervision - Ensures that specimens go to the appropriate laboratory. Ensures that all information on labels and requisitions match. Print demographics for next day. Post staff assignments on board. Ensures that printer is in working order and supplied with paper. Assists in setting up procedure room by physician preference. Assist in turnover of procedure rooms. Keeps log of pathology as required by individual lab for mailing. Packages specimens for UPS. Assist in ordering supplies. Assist in putting up supplies. Answering receiving door when deliveries occur. Assists in restocking endoscopy room with designated supplies. Copies, collates and staples documents. Demonstrates economic use of equipment and supplies. Makes linen packs. Ensures a clean and tidy work area. Responsible for complete and thorough performance of assigned tasks. Follows established rules, regulations, and policies. Participates in CQI activities as assigned. Various duties as assigned.
Abilities:
Mental Power:
Knowledge of medical terminology. Typing. Ability to take direction and exercise judgement. Ability to make decisions that have a limited number of solutions. Follows established policies, procedures, and schedules.
Physical Power:
Walks, sits, stands in place; arm/wrist/hand movement. Assumes and maintains maintains various postural positions including but not limited to kneeling, reaching, stooping, bending, and crouching. Push/Pull wheelchair and stretcher. Apply abdominal pressure. Able to lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Work Environment Standard endoscopy environment including possible exposure to communicable diseases.

Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED. Receives on-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions. Formal nurse's aide, medical assistant, nurse, or medical technician training preferred.
