Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
To work as part of a team preparing and decontaminating/disinfecting endoscopy equipment/environment for endoscopy procedures. To work with service providers to ensure equipment is regularly serviced and repaired. To ensure supplies and equipment are correctly received, distributed and tracked. To maintain a safe working environment by adhering strictly to health and safety policies and procedures. To assist physicians with procedures. To assist in carrying out safe aseptic technique and procedures. To collaborate with procedure room staff.
MAJOR DUTIES/CRITICAL TASKS
Under general supervision - Assist physician with various procedures. Assist in orientation of new staff. Perform all scope washing for the endoscopy center. Ensure supplies and equipment are available and in working order. Ensure maintenance of all equipment occurs at the prescribed interval with the contracted company. Set up procedure room by physician preference. Clean and perform routine maintenance of all endoscope equipment. Maintain scope-washing machines. Perform calibration. Maintain endoscopy schedule. Receive supplies. Restock endoscopy room with designated supplies. Process endoscopes in need of repair. Provide technical assistance to medical and nursing staff. Notifies supervisor of any malfunction of equipment. Ensures a clean and tidy work area throughout scope process. Responsible for complete and thorough performance of assigned tasks. Follows established rules, regulations and policies. Demonstrates economic use of equipment and supplies. Participates in CQI activities as assigned. Various duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED. CMA or within 6 months of hire Endoscope Reprocessing Certification within 1 year of hire Receives on-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions. • Formal nurse's aide, medical assistant, nurse or medical technician training preferred. BLS certified
Abilities:
Mental Power Ability to make decisions that usually have a limited number of solutions. Ability to exercise judgment in selection of the order of work assignments to meet established work schedules. Physical Power On feet/walks 9-11 hours a day, sits, stand in place, arm/hand movements; heavy lifting. Assumes and maintains various postural positions including but not limited to: kneeling, reaching, stooping, bending, and crouching. Repositions patients. Transfers patients. Apply abdominal pressure. Able to lift and/or move 50 pounds and occasionally more than 100 pounds. Standard endoscopy environment including exposure to chemicals, possible exposure to communicable diseases, injury from intractable patients or sharp instruments.
OTHER:
Able to accept supervision and benefit from constructive criticism. Exhibits cooperation, self-control and courtesy in relating to co-workers and job related contacts. Complies with attendance requirements. Demonstrates respect for authority, discusses problems and follows chain of command. • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected. Demonstrates commitment to excellence in guest relations.
