What you'll do The Digestive Diseases Technician I - Acute Care , under general supervision of the Endoscopy Nurse Manager, while working closely with the Team Leader of Endoscopy Nursing is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the cleaning and sterilizing of all scopes. Assists with procedures in the GI Lab, OR, Emergency Department and Inpatient Units Works closely with other Digestive Diseases staff to maintain supplies and equipment. The Digestive Disease Technician I and II may participate in on-call rotation nights, weekends and holidays. Works collaboratively with all clinical staff in assuring timeliness of endoscopic procedures including room turnover and scope availability Cleans procedure room within 5 minutes of patient departure from room with no more than 3-4 exceptions per year as measured by supervisory observation Ensure equipment is stocked with appropriately, supplies and linen at the end of each procedure day with no more than 2-3 exceptions per year as measured by supervisory observation and peer feedback (GI Tech II) Will provide support to surgeons in the OR needing assistance with GI cases Cleans, sterilizes and dries all scopes on a daily basis as assigned Part 1. Identifies need for scope repair and initiates repair process within 1-2 hours of identification of need for repair as measured by supervisory observation Ensures that all logs are kept up to date as measured by weekly DSD log printouts Performs manual portion of scope cleaning in 6-10 minutes as measured by supervisory observation Independently manages all aspects of scope cleaning on low and moderate volume days as measured by supervisory observation (GI Tech II) Will become an expert in scope processing. They will be the resource person for new staff learning the reprocessing procedures Cleans, sterilizes and dries all scopes on a daily basis as assigned Part 2. Cleans and disinfects endoscopes with 100% cleanliness rate according to department policy as measured by quarterly quality assurance checks. Follows department policy on high level disinfectant as measured by supervisory observation (GI Tech II) Will perform scope reprocessing audits on GI Tech I's Assists with procedures in the GI Lab, OR, Emergency Department and Inpatient Units (GI Tech II) Assists MD with polyp removal using cautery in combination with other equipment under direct supervision of physician Assists in daily operational and patient flow activities as required (GI Tech II) Can assist in obtaining specimens under direct supervision of MD (GI Tech II) Can assist MD with balloon dilations of the esophagus and colon (GI Tech II) Can assist MD with control of hemorrhage using equipment such as clips and cautery (GI Tech II) Can assist with set-up of ERCP procedures Makes effective use of downtime by identifying necessary tasks Maintenance of unit equipment and appropriate documentation Identifies need to order equipment and works with supervisor to process order promptly as measured by supervisory observation May participate in on-call rotation for nights, weekends and holiday coverage (GI Tech II) Acts as a mentor to new Digestive Disease Techs, assisting with orientation to equipment and procedures Demonstrates financial accountability including efficient use of resources and understanding of appropriate and compliant billing Demonstrates understanding of value of equipment and takes appropriate care when handling sensitive equipment 100% of the time with no more than 1-2 exceptions per year as observed by supervisor and physicians Minimizes waste of costly med/surg supplies by ensuring that older supplies are used in advance of newer supplies as observed by supervisor Maintains competent level of knowledge by participating in relevant educational and training programs Attends 85-90% of all offered continuing education programs pertinent to the maintenance and development of expertise related to area of practice as observed by supervisor Attends 80-85% of all department meetings and reviews and documents that they have reviewed the minutes of missed meetings as observed by supervisor Attends all mandatory in-service programs or documents review of required material as documented on annual in-service record (GI Tech II) Maintains advanced associate certification through SGNA Performs other duties as requested and observed by supervisor or manager What we need from you
