Job Description

About Us Thompson Counseling Services is a therapist-owned group practice in New Paltz, NY, serving children, adolescents, and adults throughout the Hudson Valley. Our mission is to connect community members of all ages with compassionate, skilled therapists who provide treatment that is accessible and sustainable, helping people get the direction and support they need to make the changes they want. We accept all major insurances, including Medicare and Medicaid, because we believe quality mental health care shouldn't be out of reach. Our reputation has been built almost entirely on word of mouth, something we don't take lightly. From the first phone call to the last session, we hold ourselves to a high standard at every touchpoint. We were founded by a clinician, and our values reflect that: excellence in care, integrity, accessibility, and collaboration. We know what therapists need to do their best work, and we've built the infrastructure to support it. The Role We're seeking a skilled, dedicated child and adolescent therapist to join our clinical team. This position is based at our New Paltz office, where the majority of sessions are conducted in person. Work with children and adolescents is in person, as we've found that younger clients thrive with the consistency and connection that face-to-face therapy provides. Most of our clients across all ages are currently requesting in-person sessions, so the caseload will be predominantly in person, with some room for hybrid work where it is clinically appropriate. While we are specifically looking for a therapist whose primary focus and passion is working with children and teens, we recognize that a mixed caseload can make for a healthier and more sustainable practice. Clinicians who also enjoy working with young adults and adults will find that balance is naturally supported here. If you're looking for a primarily virtual caseload, this particular role isn't the right fit, but we appreciate your interest in TCS. You'll join a practice with an active waiting list, meaning you can focus on clinical work from day one rather than spending months building a caseload. What You'll Do Provide individual in-person therapy to children and adolescents in an outpatient setting Collaborate with parents and families as part of the therapeutic process Maintain timely, thorough clinical documentation Participate in supervision and peer consultation Uphold the ethical and professional standards that define our practice What Sets Us Apart You'll have clients from day one. We maintain an active waiting list so you're never starting from scratch. This practice is therapist-owned, which means leadership understands the work because they've done it. Strong systems are in place for billing, credentialing, marketing, and office operations so you can focus entirely on care. Weekly individual supervision is provided for limited permit holders (LMSW and MHC-LP), and all clinicians participate in peer supervision and monthly team meetings. Every new clinician goes through an organized onboarding process so you feel supported and set up for success from the start. Scheduling is flexible and built around your availability, including afternoon and evening hours. Full-time staff receive competitive W2 compensation and a full benefits package. You're a Great Fit If You... Have experience in an outpatient therapeutic setting and understand what that environment demands Genuinely enjoy working with children, adolescents, and families Are comfortable with and enthusiastic about in-person clinical work Are collaborative, clinically thoughtful, and hold yourself to high documentation standards Want to grow within a stable, values-driven practice that has earned its reputation through excellent care Are looking for a long-term professional home Requirements Master's degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling Active NYS license or permit: LCSW, LMHC, LMSW, or MHC-LP considered on review Experience working with children and/or adolescents in an outpatient setting strongly preferred Full-time availability required Mixed schedule of afternoon and evening availability required Commitment to in-person work at our New Paltz office Compensation & Growth W2, hourly position paying $40 to $52 per clinical session, commensurate with experience and licensure Full-time position with benefits eligible after a 90-day probationary period For clinicians who are looking beyond the clinical hour, TCS offers a career ladder for those interested in growing into supervisory roles and becoming an integral part of the continued growth of our practice. We are building something meaningful here, and we want team members who want to grow with us.
