Elementary School-Based Mental Health Therapist Position Summary Teen Health Center, Inc. is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Mental Health Therapist to provide school-based behavioral health services within an elementary school campus in Galveston ISD. The therapist will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to support the social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs of elementary-aged students through individual counseling, family engagement, consultation, crisis intervention, and collaboration with school personnel. This position is embedded within the school setting and focuses on reducing barriers to learning, promoting social-emotional wellness, strengthening family-school partnerships, and increasing access to quality mental health care for children and their families.

Uphold all HIPAA, FERPA, ethical, licensing, and agency standards related to confidentiality and patient care.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology, including: CSWE (Council on Social Work Education); CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs); COAMFTE (Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education); CAMPP (Council of Applied Master's Programs in Psychology) Current Texas licensure as one of the following : Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW); Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW); Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC); Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC Associate); Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); Licensed Psychology Associate (LPA) Experience working with children and families. Knowledge of child development, attachment, trauma, and social-emotional learning. Ability to effectively engage caregivers and collaborate with school personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Fluency in English and Spanish. Experience providing school-based mental health services. Experience working with elementary-aged children. Training in evidence-based interventions for children and families, such as TF-CBT, PCIT, CPP, CBT, play therapy interventions, or other developmentally appropriate treatment models. Experience collaborating with educational professionals and multidisciplinary teams.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Services:
Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for students and families. Provide evidence-based individual and family therapy services in accordance with state licensure standards and agency policies. Deliver developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions addressing concerns such as anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, trauma, behavioral challenges, adjustment difficulties, grief, and family stressors. Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention and safety planning when needed. Monitor treatment progress and update treatment plans as clinically indicated.
School-Based Collaboration:
Consult and collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and other school personnel regarding student social-emotional and behavioral needs. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, student support team meetings, and other school-based planning efforts as appropriate. Assist in identifying barriers to learning and implementing strategies that support student success. Promote positive behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health outcomes within the school environment.
Family Engagement:
Actively engage caregivers in treatment planning and intervention. Provide parent consultation and education regarding child development, behavior management, emotional regulation, and mental health concerns. Strengthen connections between home, school, and community supports. Facilitate referrals to additional agency and community resources when appropriate.
Group and Prevention Services:
Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups focused on emotional regulation, coping skills, social skills, problem-solving, self-esteem, resilience, and healthy relationships. Support campus-wide mental health awareness and prevention initiatives. Participate in school and community outreach activities that promote student wellness.
Documentation and Compliance:
Complete assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and related clinical documentation within agency-established timeframes. Maintain accurate and timely records in the EPIC electronic medical record system. Adhere to all HIPAA, FERPA, state licensing, and agency documentation requirements.
Additional Requirements:
Maintain active Texas licensure in good standing throughout employment. Maintain professional liability insurance as required by licensure and agency policy. Meet a minimum productivity expectation of 25 direct service hours per week. Successfully pass all required background checks and clearances for work within Galveston ISD.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to move throughout a school campus and participate in classroom, cafeteria, and meeting environments. Ability to sit, stand, walk, and engage with students throughout the workday. Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
