Job Description

BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Assists Genetics Department with administrative duties for optimal performance and care coordination.
REPORTS TO
Practice Manager
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Degree:
Degree in Genetics, Biology, Psychology, or related field.
License/Certification Required:
None.
Minimum Work Experience:
1 year of related experience preferred.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Familiar with standard concepts and practices within field Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel Highly detail oriented Highest integrity with confidential health information
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinates prior authorizations for genetic testing with patients, payers, and other facilities. Prepares lab requisitions to ensure accurate and appropriate directions and outcomes. Manages lab resulting database to ensure timely and effective results are reported. Monitors electronic correspondence and resulting for patient referrals and newborn screen cases. Collects previous relevant test results and clinical documentation prior to initial visits/consultations. Provides clerical support to provider, counselor, and staff. Coordination of follow up testing with families. Fields communications from laboratories, insurance providers, and families regarding testing, and addresses the needs of each accordingly. Communicates with families with empathy and compassion as the focus of the practice surrounds sensitive and critical patient needs. Deals with outside customers (payers, facilities, etc.) with professionalism and represents ETCH's vision of ideal patient care. Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment. Coordinates triaging of genetic patient referrals with input from counselor and other providers. Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably. Willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Note:

Medium lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-20 pounds frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure for lifting or moving of up to 100 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required.
