Pay Range:
$38.02 - $61.88 per hour Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rush's anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case.
Summary:
The Senior Genetic Counselor oversees the genetic counseling service . This person assists physician geneticists, physicians, and genetic counselors in patient care at Rush University Medical Center, Rush Medical College, and satellite clinics. The Senior Genetic Counselor will be responsible for leading the efforts related to genetic program growth across multidisciplinary teams. General duties include counseling, record keeping, appropriate patient follow up, grant management, literature search, research, and teaching. Leadership duties include program development, and mentorship of the Genetic Counselors. The Senior Genetic Counselor contributes to performance discussions and evaluations. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications:
Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) accredited program. Licensure as a Genetic Counselor in Illinois. Three or more years of experience as a Genetic Counselor. Critical thinking abilities, the ability to function independently and demonstrate strong motivational, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Job Qualifications:
Experience in developing and leading a genetics program.
Responsibilities:
1. Provides comprehensive counseling services to patients with a variety of indications including but not limited to: personal history of genetic diseases, 2. Provides genetic counseling including managing patient flow through clinic, eliciting/addressing patient concerns, providing genetic risk assessment and counseling about risk reduction. 3. Conducts appropriate follow-up including generation and distribution of consultant letters, documentation in patient record, and direct communication with collaborating healthcare providers. 4. Leads the genetic counseling group to grow the genetics program across multidisciplinary teams across the institution. 5. Leads educational opportunities of both clinical and administrative staff on genetic and testing issues. 6. Leads collaborative efforts in the delivery of specimens with appropriate laboratories. 7. Leads the implementation, coordination, maintenance and design of ongoing and new research protocols. 8. Precepts and mentors Genetic Counselors. 9. Develops orientation program for Genetic Counselors. 10. Identifies opportunities to build, organize and maintain the genetics programs and expand it throughout the institution. 11.
