About UBMD Pediatrics UBMD Pediatrics is one of 20 practice plans within UBMD Physicians' Group, the single largest medical group in Western New York. We provide premier health care to infants, children, adolescents and adults. In addition to primary care pediatrics, we have 17 pediatric subspecialties. Our physicians make up the academic teaching faculty within the Department of Pediatrics at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Buffalo and at Golisano Children's Hospital of Buffalo. This role will support the Medical Genetics Clinics within the Division of Genetics, which evaluates pediatric and adult patients with a broad range of referral indications, including neurodevelopmental disorders, hereditary cardiovascular conditions, cancer predisposition, and other suspected genetic disorders. The position offers opportunities to collaborate with pediatric subspecialists and participate in multidisciplinary specialty clinics, as well as provide inpatient genetic consultation at Golisano Children's Hospital of Buffalo. The Division currently includes three genetic counselors, a medical geneticist, a genetics physician assistant, and a genetic counseling assistant. Two maternal-fetal medicine genetic counselors are also embedded within the broader genetics group. The University has recently achieved accreditation for a new Genetic Counseling Training Program, with the inaugural class matriculating in Fall 2026. Genetic counselors within the Division of Genetics will play an active role in teaching and student supervision. Additional opportunities to specialize, support multidisciplinary clinics, and contribute to program growth are anticipated as the Division of Genetics continues to expand. Key Responsibilities:
Provide genetic counseling and coordinate genetic testing and follow-up care for patients and families seen in our Medical Genetics Clinics. Obtain and interpret detailed medical, obstetric, and family histories Disclose and interpret genetic test results; educate patients, families, and referring providers Deliver patient-centered counseling, including psychosocial assessment, anticipatory guidance, and discussion of recurrence risks Document clinical encounters accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record Collaborate with other UBMD pediatrics and Genetics providers Connect patients with appropriate medical, educational, financial, and psychosocial resources Participate in education and supervision of students, residents, fellows, and genetic counseling students Serve as a professional and community genetics resource within the Division of Genetics Qualifications M.S. in Genetic Counseling from an accredited genetic counseling program Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) or the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG), with board certification expected within one year of hire Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, clinical staff, and the public New graduates and applicants with a connection to the Buffalo community are encouraged to apply Benefits Package Details With a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and a strong commitment to work-life balance, this is an opportunity you won't want to miss.
