Job Description

The RN Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) performs all aspects of care in the management of the breast-feeding mother-baby dyad including but limited to: acting as coach, consultant, teacher, and lactation expert. The position works collaboratively to develop breastfeeding plans and provide education to support the mother-baby dyad for a range of infants. Participate in interdisciplinary performance improvement and clinical research to promote evidence-based lactation services and to improve clinical outcomes. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of practice, guidelines, policies, procedures, and protocols within area of lactation and breastfeeding to meet goals and objectives of Valleywise Health.
Hourly Pay Rate:
$36.94 - $54.49
Qualifications Education:
Requires graduation from an accredited registered nursing degree program. Prefer a bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing.
Experience:
Must have two to five (2 - 5) years of experience in obstetrical, neonatal, and/or pediatric providing direct consultation to lactating mothers.
Specialized Training:
Must complete an
I.B.C.L.C.
training program.
Certification/Licensure:
Certified Lactation Counselor or Specialist certification is required on hire.
I.B.C.L.C.
certification is required within one year of hire. Must possess a current, valid AZ RN license, temporary AZ RN license, or valid compact. RN licensure for current state of practice. Must be in good standing with the issuing Board of Nursing. Requires a BLS card obtained through an American Heart Association (AHA) training center upon hire. Must have NRP within six (6) months of hire or transfer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work with culturally diverse people is a must. Bilingual is preferred. Must have excellent communication, time management and customer service skills. Requires basic computer word processing skills (e.g. formatting, editing, printing, composing email, internet searches, etc.) to be able to successfully navigate through an electronic medical record using a computer. Requires the ability to read, write and speak effectively in English. Must have clinical experience and knowledge in breastfeeding consultation.
