This is an internal Orange County Fire Authority Recruitment The EMS & Training Department is currently accepting letters of interest and resumés for the Health & Wellness Battalion Chief staff position. ONLY letters of interest and resumés from current, qualified, non-probationary, Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) Battalion Chief personnel will be considered for this staff position.ASSIGNMENT
The Health & Wellness Chief position requires a two-year minimum commitment on administrative assignment working a 4/10 or 9/80 schedule. The Health and Wellness Battalion reports to the Assistant Chief of EMS/Operations Training & Promotions. The position would provide enterprise-level oversight of WEFIT and cancer awareness and prevention initiatives, ensuring consistency, accountability, and best-practice implementation. This role demands a strategic leader with a proven leadership history and a commitment to excellence in service delivery.ADDITIONAL PAY
Battalion Chief's assigned to a designated staff position, 4/10 or 9/80 work schedule, are eligible for ten percent (10%) staff assignment pay. Role and Responsibilities The Health & Wellness Battalion Chief will provide direct support to the Orange County Fire Authority in the following ways: Oversee Wellness & Fitness (WEFIT), cancer awareness, and prevention initiatives, ensuring consistency, accountability, and best-practice implementation Support physical fitness programs, including overseeing the WEFIT coordinator activities and initiatives Oversee and coordinate OCFA's involvement in the Firefighter Cancer Cohort Study (FFCCS), OCFA's PFAS committee, UCI/OCFA PFAS Cancer Research Study, and future health & wellness grants Represent OCFA's involvement in FIRESCOPE's Cancer Prevention Subcommittee Oversee and coordinate ongoing cancer prevention education to operations and professional staff Collaborate closely with operations and professional staff responsible for Risk Management, Operations Training & Safety, and EMS Collaborate closely with professional staff responsible forRisk Management:
Workers' Compensation Behavioral Health & Wellness Coordinator Environmental Health Safety Officer Collaborate closely with the Operations Training & Safety Battalion Chief on the following: Training Lessons learned Live fire training Safety Officer and Assistant Fire Training Officers Collaborate closely with the EMS Battalion Chief on the following: Training Disease infection control Vaccinations Coordinate health and wellness initiatives with the following committees to ensure alignment with NFPA 1500 and 1521: Occupational Health & Safety Committee, Apparatus Committee, Equipment Committee, PPE Committee, and other identified committees Develop operating guidelines and training pertaining to health and wellness Identify emerging trends and technology to enhance occupational safety, health, and wellness Identifies trends, exposures, and systemic risk before injuries, exposures, and/or fatalities occur Update the Cancer Awareness Prevention Program branding and marketing materials to keep the program's importance fresh in employees' minds Build relationships with individuals and schools that are conducting studies that will lead to more awareness and tools to prevent occupational cancer Supervises, assigns, and monitors work assignments of assigned Health & Wellness staff Provides program status reports to the Assistant Chief of EMS/Operations Training & Promotions Oversee the Health & Wellness budget and expenditures to include grants Approve, plan, and coordinate travel for training and other required meetings Maintain and revise OCFA's SOPs as directed Serve as the subject matter expert and agency representative for OCFA's Health & Wellness Program Foster and support ongoing working relationships with safety and non-safety personnel Communicate with OCFA personnel in ways that continue to stress the importance of cancer prevention efforts, leading to cultural change Supports OCFA's strategic goal of fostering a work environment where personnel can remain healthy, resilient, and operationally effective Other duties as assignedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Currently employed with the OCFA as a non-probationary Fire Battalion Chief.HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Understanding of OCFA SOP's, policies, and procedures. Understanding of all represented employees' Memoranda of Understanding. Ability to develop and maintain working relationships. Ability to prioritize, assign, and monitor work. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.LICENSE:
