Dir of Campus Engagement Pay Range:
$29 to $35per hour Who We Are Our Own® is a nonprofit organization founded on the belief that complex challenges demand multifaceted solutions. Our mission is to dismantle systemic barriers across mental health and wellness, STEAM education, entrepreneurship, physical fitness, and spatial equity. We strive to foster access and bridge existing gaps in these critical areas, promoting inclusivity and opportunity for our communities. About the Role The Wellness Teacher is a curriculum delivery role. You will be in the classroom, teaching wellness across grade bands from transitional kindergarten through twelfth grade. You bring lessons to life with energy and intention, adapt your approach to meet the developmental needs of younger and older students, and help young people build the language and habits to take care of their physical, mental, and emotional health. This role is for educators who love teaching, know how to read a room, and want their work to mean something beyond a test score.
Key Responsibilities Lesson Planning:
Develop and prepare comprehensive wellness lesson plans aligned with the Our Own curriculum and state standards, covering physical fitness, nutrition, mental health, stress management, social-emotional learning, and substance abuse prevention.
Instructional Delivery:
Teach engaging, interactive wellness classes across the TK-12 grade range, adapting strategies, language, and pacing to meet the developmental needs of each age group.
Classroom Management:
Hold a focused, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where students feel safe to participate, ask questions, and try new things. Ability to manage classroom behaviors and maintain a focused learning environment of 20 to 30 students, including in the event that additional support staff are not available. Ability to effectively communicate and track student behaviors to leadership.
Individualized Support:
Provide personalized guidance to students based on their wellness needs and goals, including small group interventions and warm referrals to school counselors or appropriate resources. Collaboration with
Schools:
Work alongside classroom teachers, administrators, and counselors to integrate wellness into the broader school day and culture.
Professional Development:
Stay current on trends, research, and best practices in wellness education through ongoing training, workshops, and team learning sessions.
Parent and Community Engagement:
Foster positive relationships with parents and families through workshops, school events, and outreach efforts that extend wellness beyond the classroom. What Success Looks Like Lessons are impactful.

Students at every grade level walk out with something they remember and can use. You read the room and adapt. A 2nd grade class and an 11th grade class get the same content shaped two completely different ways. Teachers and administrators see you as a partner who strengthens the school day, not someone who pulls students away from it. Families know who you are and trust what you teach. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Equivalent. Previous experience teaching or working with TK-12 students in a school or educational setting. Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom management skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and community partners. Ability to use Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and basic data tracking tools. Familiarity with IEPs, 504 Plans, or supporting students with diverse learning needs is preferred. Specialized training or certification in wellness education, health promotion, or related fields is desirable. Training in Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) methodologies is preferred. Certificated Teaching Credential is a plus. College degree preferred, not required. Must be able to pass a background check. Position is a mandated reporter under California law. Bilingual communication is strongly considered, not required. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom and school facilities. Must have the ability to lift and easily move 25 lbs around a classroom. Flexibility to participate in wellness-related activities and events both indoors and outdoors. Work is primarily performed in a school environment, with occasional off-site meetings, events, or activities. May require evening or weekend hours for special events, workshops, or conferences. Candidate will follow a traditional annual school calendar. May be assigned to one or more partner school sites. Reliable transportation required. Position may require travel between Our Own partner sites across Los Angeles County. Compensation & Benefits Pay commensurate with qualifications and experience within the posted range.
