Health Educator Hope and Help Center of Central Florida Inc - 1.0 Winter Park, FL Job Details Full-time From $19.62 an hour 11 hours ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Full Job Description Job Summary Position is responsible for planning and facilitating group education sessions, outreach events, and one-on-one counseling focused on communicable disease, specifically HIV and STI, prevention, testing and treatment adherence, providing accurate information about transmission, prevention methods (including PrEP, condoms, and harm reduction) and living well with HIV, while tailoring messages to key populations, including high-risk groups. Conducts or supports HIV/STI testing, performs risk assessments, and makes referrals to medical care, case management and social services. Job Purpose Position aims to reduce communicable disease transmission and improve health outcomes for people living with or at risk for HIV/STI by providing education, counseling, and linkage to prevention and care services, increasing disease knowledge and supporting behavioral changes that lower health risk and improve community health. Essential Functions Essential functions are the primary duties/main job responsibilities that an incumbent must be able to perform, with or without accommodation. Key accountability areas include client education and counseling, testing, linkage and navigation, community outreach and engagement, and documentation and reporting.
Job Factors Minimum Education Level Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in health education, public health, or a closely related field preferred.
HIV 500/501
certification required upon hire.
Minimum Experience Level Required:
Minimum two years' health educator experience in a professional clinical or healthcare setting. Previous professional HIV counseling, outreach or case management experience required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Valid Florida driver's license with an unrestricted driving record. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; bilingual preferred. Indepth understanding of HIV transmission, prevention strategies (including PrEP and harm reduction), testing technologies, and the HIV care continuum, plus basic STI and sexual health knowledge. Strong understanding of health education principles, behavior change, motivational interview, and traumainformed, clientcentered approaches, including familiarity with community resources and social determinants of health. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software tools. Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build trust quickly and maintain professional boundaries. Excellent organizational and time management skills; able to manage multiple priorities, projects and deadlines simultaneously Strong presentation skills and ability to clearly convey complex information to a range of audiences Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and consistently apply privacy standards. Ability to work independently in community settings and as part of an interdisciplinary team. Work Environment Physical Demands The physical demands described represent those that an employee must meet in order to perform the essential functions of the job. Frequent work outdoors exposed to elements. Frequent performance of position duties while standing, walking and while in motion and manipulating medical devices and other equipment. Frequent computer use at a workstation up to two hours or more at a time. Frequently fast-paced work with unscheduled interruptions. Work will require an adjusted work schedule and frequent evening/weekend hours in order to meet patient care demands. Public contact position requiring clinic-appropriate apparel and use of personal protective equipment.
