Job Description

The Adams County Health Department currently seeks a full time Health Educator.
Description of Position:
Health Education provides population-based health promotion and health education coordination and outreach. This position is to promote, maintain, and improve individual and community health. The Health Educator is involved in a wide range of activities which include: developing, organizing, and implementing health education initiatives, both locally and regionally; assisting schools, community groups, and organizations by providing in-service training, consultation, and group instruction; attending health fairs and developing exhibits; developing educational materials and mass communications; coordinating assessments, report development, program evaluation and grant writing; promoting the health department programs and services; developing budgets; and assisting with program planning to influence behavioral, policy and environmental changes that affect individual and community health.
General Duties:
  • Responsible for promoting prevention programs within the community.
  • Collaboration within other community entities to work together to meet public needs.
  • Coordinate educational and informational programs within Adams County Health Department (ACHD) and the community.
  • Coordinates outreach efforts to inform participants that are eligible for certain programs.
  • Public speaking.
Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred from an accredited college or university in public health, health education, education, or related field.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license by the state of residence prior to appointment and during tenure of employment.
Knowledge and Skills:
Must be self-directed, have excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills, and have strong coalition facilitation skills and experience. Have experience in community outreach. Have strong communication skills and experience with building relationships. Demonstrate creativity and problem-solving skills.
