What is the Wellness Coach experience? When you join Walker's Wellness Coach Program (WCP), you serve alongside Walker's team and your Wellness Coach cohort to gain valuable early career experience supporting students with emotional and behavioral health challenges so they can thrive in Boston's public schools and after school programs. This service position allows you to develop your skills, earn a living stipend, and support students with interpersonal skills, emotional regulation, executive functioning ultimately helping to provide all youth with a positive and supportive environment to thrive.
Note:
Wellness coaches are not therapists and should not be confused with physical fitness coaches. They are trained and supervised to support youth, teach effective skill-building and support strategies, and identify and facilitate referral for clinical and social services/therapy as needed. What skills will you learn? As a Wellness Coach you begin your service year in August, with three weeks of immersive college-level coursework to develop a strong foundational knowledge in child and adolescent development and behavioral health. You will learn evidence-based behavioral health supports, social emotional skill-building interventions, and case management approaches. This robust training will boost your confidence and skills to provide one-on-one/group youth support in classrooms and beyond. How will you apply your skills? Starting in September, you will be matched with an in-person service location (Boston Public School or Boston-based after-school program), where you will spend 15-18 hours/week supporting youth facing emotional and behavioral health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, and unhealthy eating, sleeping, and screen time patterns. As a Wellness Coach, you will be supported by your site-based supervisor, and a licenWalker supervisor. You will continue to learn from your peers and supervisors in monthly seminars and weekly supervision meetings.
Site-placement schedule:
Typical service hours align with school or after-school schedules, with school placements generally running from 8 AM to 3 PM and after-school placements from 3 PM to 6 PM. Some flexibility may be required based on site needs.

Qualifications:

Pay:
$7,650.00 - $20,400.00 per year
