JOB SUMMARY

The Washtenaw County Health Department is seeking applications for a Public Health Assistant within our Community Health Promotion Division. This paid position will supportmunity health promotion initiatives, often grant-funded or focused on specific public health issues, and requires basic understanding of public health practice and an ability to work withmunity members and partners. Health promotion initiatives aim to support health broadly through increased access to resources, policy or environmental change, as well as health education.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Essential Duties:

Interacting directly with program participants,munity members and partners as well as Health Department staff (e.g. health care partners,munityanizations, vendors, program staff,munity health workers). Planning and implementing educational initiatives and activities (including developing materials and resources) for a variety of settings and with diverse populations/audiences. This may include leading oranizing small group education or events and requires public speaking on relevant topics, such as nutrition, goal setting, substance abuse prevention, safe use of medications, or preventing disease or injury. Identifying and implementing ways to engage participants and convey accurate, understandable health information in remote or in-person settings. Working with stakeholders to develop and review accurate, appropriate, and responsive health materials and resources in accordance with program goals and objectives. Reaching out to current and potential partners to continue or expand program activities. Reviewing and summarizing current literature, research, policy, or legislation relevant to the program, such as evidence-based interventions that support health improvements among specific populations or state medical marijuana legislation. Managing iing phone calls, emails, or requests. Supporting conference and event planning, including working with vendors and making purchases in accordance with County guidelines and procedures. ing create and maintain relevant healthmunication materials, including information, health education materials, social media content and graphics, videos, and campaign content. This may include working effectively with available software and hardware to create or edit multimedia content for a variety of platforms. Completing program objectives and activities based on grant requirements and/or the applicant's skills and interests, in consultation with department staff. Utilizing current Countywide and/or department specific software toplete assignments. This may also include specific program reporting or evaluation, such as SPSS data entry and analysis or monitoring activities and oues according to grant requirements. Strong technical skills including word processing, spreadsheet development and management, with an emphasis on proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Canva or similar platforms helpful. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, previous editing, video editing, and/ormunications/health education experience helpful. Experience with behavior change theory or techniques, such as Motivational Interviewing (preferred).

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Possession of valid Michigan Vehicle Operator's license or State issued identification card.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including aputer, vision to read ed materials and a video display terminal puter) screen and hearing and speech sufficient tomunicate in person or over the telephone. The employee must be mobile both in an office setting and in the field with the ability to stand, sit, stoop and kneel, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must lift or push/pull objects of up to 30lbs without assistance. Amodation will be made, as needed, for employees required to lift or move objects that exceed this weight. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works remotely, in the office, and at other work sites and regularly travels between work sites using a motor vehicle. Though applicable safety procedures are documented and utilized, the incumbent may be exposed to unsanitary or unhygienic materials, individuals and situations while performing required duties. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet to moderate.

EDUCATION

Active enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters Degree program or equivalent to thepletion of two years of college with an emphasis on Public Health, Nutrition, Health Communications or a related field is strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE

Ten (10) months to one (1) year of customer service experience

ADDITIONAL NOTES

This temporary position will work with the Washtenaw Health Project to evaluate results from a new cash assistance payment program for birth parents. Previous administrative experience and survey implementation experience is strongly preferred. The selected candidate must have proficient attention to detail and should befortable performing descriptive analyses. Access to a vehicle may be required for some positions. This temporary position is part-time, working 10-15 hours per week during the summer and 5 hours per week during the academic year from August 2025 ¿ May 2026. Typical work hours are between 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday.
