Description:
If you're looking for a way to put your health and safety skills to use in the great outdoors this summer, consider being a Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi Camp Health Manager at beautiful Camp Iti Kana in Wiggins and Camp Wahi in Brandon! The Health Manager creates an emotionally and physically safe environment for campers, maintains health records, performs first aid and dispenses medications. The camp Health Manager lives at the camp for the summer and can be an RN, Nurse Practitioner, EMT, nursing student, wilderness first aider, etc. Knowledge of current COVID-19 orders and regulations, HIPAA regulations and OSHA blood borne pathogens standards are a must. The Healthcare Manager is responsible for the general health and safety of summer campers and staff, maintaining the camp infirmary, administering medications and first aid care, reviewing health histories, health screening checks, and keeping accurate and detailed records.
Requirements:
Establish and maintain regular infirmary hours. Conduct daily checks of the infirmary and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. Assure that local EMS services are aware of any camp special needs. Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including record keeping in the daily medical log, proper disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders. Provide first aid and care in case of illness or accident as directed by a physician; takes responsibility for calling the physician and/or the caregiver and, when advisable, accompany the camper or staff on trips to a hospital. Requisition of necessary equipment and supplies throughout camp. During staff and camper check-in, collect all medications, store them in a locked cabinet, and dispense as indicated by the prescribing physician. Provide consultation with families at check-in on camper health concerns, review health histories and physicals, and provide lice screening and temperature checks of campers. Notify the Camp Director when caregivers are needed to be notified of an accident, illness, or injury. Maintains phone log of all contacts. Complete and maintain necessary reports; such as daily treatment log, health department accident/illness reports, accident reports, and insurance claim forms. Monitor the health of all campers and staff. Work with council staff to provide training for resident camp temporary staff. Submit a written evaluation of the camp at the end of the season/session. Meet with the Camp Director as necessary. Willingness to stay on camp property during the duration of employment while campers are present. Register as a volunteer with Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi and complete a criminal background check.
License/Certification:
Advanced First Aid Certification and Advanced CPR Certification/AED (Required)
