HWC I $14.00/hr, HWC II $16.00/hr or more, DOE Reports to:
Health & Wellness Director Probation :
Subject to Montana 12 month statutory introductory (probationary) period
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director of Health & Wellness, the Health & Wellness Coach/Monitor (HWC) provides fitness instruction and monitors safety in fitness areas for all members through scheduled orientations and ongoing opportunities to teach and reinforce updated exercise techniques and general fitness principles. The HWC enforces the rules and policies of the YMCA Health Center and of the YMCA generally in a positive and consistent manner. They are responsible for the condition and cleanliness of the Health Center and all equipment, and provides members with a quality fitness experience that reflects a positive image of the YMCA. Must be able to thrive in an environment with the unique challenges of a non-profit community service organization. Works with limited supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Orient and educate participants in safe and effective exercise techniques and fitness training principles, geared to individual fitness levels and goals Enforce all Health Center rules and policies consistently Be known to all members. Learn and use names. Be available at all times to answer questions and provide assistance Conduct daily cleaning and maintenance procedures Report maintenance needs and safety hazards to your supervisor immediately. Arrive for scheduled shifts on time and dressed in proper uniform You are responsible for finding and approved substituted if you are going to be absent from your scheduled shift Attend all Health Center staff meetings and training events Know and use health, safety and emergency procedures Assist with inside and outside promotion of all YMCA Programs and membership Comply with all items as listed on "Staff Expectations" and personnel policy handbook Stay current on changes and trends in the fitness industry through continuing education, reading, workshops and training Complete required child abuse training, comply with legal and ethical obligation as a mandatory reporter of suspected child abuse and cooperate fully with any investigation of such abuse
QUALIFICATIONS
HWC I:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational background and/or experience in strength training and general fitness and/or group exercise instruction.
HWC II:
Aditionally, employee must be either a Certified Personal Trainer or a certified Group Exercise Instructor. Current CPR certification and basic first aid training. Excellent communication, leadership and motivational skills. Working knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology and safe exercise technique.

Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work enthusiastically within constantly changing priorities Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle conflicts in a timely and professional manner Must be able to occasionally work varied shifts dependant on events and staffing needs Must be able to work autonomously and with limited supervision within the Y core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility Must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation Ability to attend all trainings and meetings as required even if scheduled outside normal working or regularly scheduled hours. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency Ability to walk and stand for periods of time, must be able to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, or up to 75 pounds with assistance Frequently may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking
