Job Description

American Red Cross Instructor / Instructor Trainer Our primary focus is recruiting candidates who already hold an Instructor Trainer (IT) certification. However, experienced American Red Cross instructors who do not currently hold IT status are still encouraged to apply and may be considered based on instructional experience, equipment readiness, availability, and professional background. This role is ideal for first responders, healthcare professionals, educators, public safety personnel, and experienced trainers who enjoy teaching and working independently in a fast-paced training environment. Required Certifications & Teaching Capabilities Candidates must currently be certified and capable of independently teaching some or all of the following American Red Cross programs: All Lay Responder Courses Basic Life Support (BLS) Babysitter's Training Bloodborne Pathogens Applicable Skill Boost Courses, including: Life-Threatening Bleeding and Tourniquet Application (Skill-Boost) Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto-Injector Administration (Skill-Boost) Asthma and Quick-Relief Medication Administration (Skill-Boost) Head, Neck, Muscle, Bone, and Joint Injuries and Splinting (MBJI Skill-Boost) Opioid Overdose and Naloxone Administration - Nasal Atomizer (Skill-Boost) Administering Emergency Oxygen (Skill-Boost) Highly Preferred Additional Certifications Candidates holding current instructor certifications in the following programs will be considered highly qualified and may receive priority consideration for advanced scheduling opportunities and specialized courses: Wilderness First Aid Advanced Life Support (ALS) CPR for Professional Rescuers (CPRO) First Aid for Severe Trauma (FAST) Emergency Medical Response (EMR) Lifeguard Instructor Lifeguard Instructor Trainer Preferred Candidate Background Preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds such as: EMS Fire Service Law Enforcement Nursing or Healthcare Emergency Management Public Safety Instruction First responders are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates with open and flexible schedules will generally have greater access to teaching opportunities and contract assignments. Contract & Travel Expectations This is a 1099 contract position requiring travel throughout the Pittsburgh region and surrounding communities.
Requirements include:
Willingness to travel within approximately 60 miles of Pittsburgh Ability to transport training equipment independently Professional appearance and communication skills Reliable transportation Ability to pass background checks required for schools and youth-serving organizations Extended-distance travel assignments may be available and are compensated at standard travel reimbursement rates. Required Equipment Candidates must possess or have access to the following instructional equipment: 6 Adult Manikins 6 Infant Manikins 6 AED Training Devices 6 Adult AED Training Pads 6 Pediatric AED Training Pads 6 Simulated Limbs 6 Printed Skill Practice Sheets and Assessment Scenarios Laptop Computer with Course Presentation Capability Projector Projection Screen Speaker Instructor Manual or Instructor Trainer Guide (digital acceptable) Assessment Scenario Tools for Instructors (digital acceptable) Important Notes Candidates are responsible for obtaining and maintaining their own instructor certifications, instructor trainer certifications, equipment, and required background clearances. Training equipment is not provided. Background checks and instructor credentialing costs are the responsibility of the candidate prior to onboarding. Why Join?
