Job Description

Overview Embark on an exciting journey into the healthcare field with our paid Pre-Health Internship! This dynamic program is designed to provide aspiring health professionals with hands-on experience, mentorship, and a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare environment. As a vital member of our team, you will gain valuable insights into patient care, medical procedures, and healthcare operations from Dr. Stephanie Waggel while developing essential skills that will propel your future career in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, or other health-related fields. This internship offers a unique opportunity to explore your passion for helping others and make a meaningful impact in the community. This position is for a college student (or high school student with a strong resume) who is interested in health and science. The intern will study directly under Improve Life PLLC's medical doctor, Dr. Stephanie Waggel. There will be educational lectures and presentations. This position will require approximately 5-10 hours per week (usually over the summer).
Responsibilities typically include:
Attend lectures on the following potential topics: fundamentals of healthcare, steps for planning a career in healthcare, mental health care, community medicine, treatment basics, medical ethics, patient interaction, self-care, anti-bullying, and other student-selected topics. Pre-health interns may also attend marketing intern lectures (such as creating a business plan, marketing techniques, and business 101). Assist in identifying relevant healthcare needs in our community. Learn the proper way to conduct medical searches on the internet. Provide support to social media efforts to target new audiences (optional). Students that show exceptional performance and interest may be selected to sit in on an appointment with a patient (patients will provide their written consent for this beforehand). If selected to shadow during appointments, student can learn how to take and interpret vital signs. Assist with special community health events and charitable volunteer work. Collaborate with Dr. Waggel in developing new and creative ideas. Write a persuasive & creative piece for our website, blog & promotional materials (optional). Directly assist Dr. Waggel with any special projects, psychiatric assessment, or other items delegated. Organize a town hall meeting to discuss community mental health needs.

Virtual, Reston, VA and Ashburn, VARequired education: High school or equivalent (if not yet completed high school must have strong resume) Required language: English After successful completion (with a passing grade) intern will receive a certificate and be able to put "Pre-Health Profession Intern" on their resume. Additionally, they may receive a letter of recommendation from Improve Life's medical doctor, Dr. Stephanie Waggel.
