Job Description

Position Overview The part-time mental health educator will be scheduled to speak to elementary, middle, and high school students throughout the Northeast Tennessee area. Additional travel throughout East Tennessee will be required. Essential Job Functions Familiarity with program curriculum Teaching mental health concepts to students Interacting appropriately with students and school staff Using powerpoint slides and activities to engage students Administering pre-test, post-test, and other evaluation components to students and school staff Providing schedule of availability to Mental Health 101 Senior Director Picking up and dropping off of materials needed to teach classes Appropriately referring students to school counselor or crisis intervention services as needed Requirements Valid Driver's License Proof of insurance with active coverage on any vehicle driven for work Experience and comfort with public speaking or education Bachelor's degree preferred, in a mental health or social services field preferred Associate's degree required or in progress of completing Bachelor's degree in relevant field Experience working with children and youth Knowledge of mental illnesses and other mental health topics and ability to discuss and explain them to all ages of students Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to schools in East Tennessee Successful completion of a criminal background check Participation in curriculum training program Availability for assignments typically lasting the entire school day (a typical school day usually lasts from 7:30 am - 3:30 pm). Mental Health Educator must be available for a minimum of two days per week for teaching.

Other notes on the position:
hours determinate on school scheduling; Average length of work day is 6-7 hours. Preferred candidate would be available 2-4 days a week. Average hours per week is 15-20 hours/week during the school year. Work over the summer is not required and may not be available.
