Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Interim Health Information Management (HIM) Director to oversee and lead HIM operations within a hospital setting. This leadership role is responsible for managing medical records, coding operations, regulatory compliance, data integrity, and HIM staff performance. The ideal candidate will possess strong healthcare management experience, comprehensive knowledge of HIM practices, and the ability to provide hands-on leadership in a fast-paced environment while ensuring accurate and compliant health information processes. Responsibilities Direct and oversee all Health Information Management (HIM) department operations. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards related to health information management. Manage medical records systems, document integrity, retention, and release of information processes. Oversee coding, documentation, and data quality initiatives to ensure accuracy and compliance. Monitor HIM workflows and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity. Supervise, mentor, and support HIM staff while promoting professional development. Collaborate with clinical, administrative, and revenue cycle teams to ensure accurate health information management. Maintain confidentiality and security of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Conduct audits and quality assurance reviews to ensure documentation accuracy and regulatory compliance. Generate reports, analyze data trends, and provide recommendations to hospital leadership. Support EMR management and optimization efforts. Requirements Minimum 5 years of Health Information Management leadership or supervisory experience. Strong knowledge of HIM operations, medical records management, coding, compliance, and healthcare regulations. Experience working in hospital or acute care settings preferred. Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Experience with electronic medical record systems; Meditech experience preferred. Strong understanding of HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and healthcare documentation requirements. Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred. Professional HIM certifications (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or equivalent) preferred.
