Job Description
Job Summary The Patient Care Technician Lead supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated basic patient care services and providing leadership to Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) within the inpatient care setting. Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), this role assists with activities of daily living, patient mobility, and vital sign monitoring, while also coordinating onboarding and training efforts for PCT staff. The Patient Care Technician Lead serves as a resource and role model for new and existing team members, contributing to the department's operational excellence and patient experience. Essential Functions Provides direct patient care in accordance with established protocols and under the supervision of an RN, including assistance with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and comfort. Obtains and records patient vital signs, intake and output, weight, and other key data throughout the shift, escalating abnormalities as appropriate. Assists with point-of-care testing and specimen collection within scope of training. Supports patient safety by assisting with fall precautions, monitoring at-risk patients, and participating in hourly rounding. Maintains a clean, organized, and safe patient care environment; stocks supplies and reports maintenance or safety issues. Leads the unit orientation process for new PCTs, including schedule development, progress tracking, and coaching. Coordinates in-service training and collaborates with vendors or subject matter experts to facilitate skill development. Acts as a mentor to PCT staff by modeling professional behavior, teamwork, and adherence to policies. Performs other duties as assigned. Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Complies with all policies and standards. Qualifications Completion of an approved Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant program required 1-3 years of experience as a Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant required 0-1 years of experience in a lead or preceptor role preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of basic patient care practices and infection control procedures. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to mentor and coach others. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment. Skilled in documenting care activities and communicating effectively with clinical staff. Proficient in the use of clinical equipment and electronic health records. Demonstrates a commitment to excellence, teamwork, and patient-centered care. Licenses and Certifications BCLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) within 30 days of start date required CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
