Job Description
Position Summary The Emergency Department (ED) Paramedic serves as a vital member of the emergency care team, working alongside physicians and registered nurses to provide high-quality, patient-centered care. This role functions as a frontline caregiver, supporting clinical operations and assisting in the delivery of care to patients ranging from newborns to geriatric populations. Under the direct supervision of a physician, the ED Paramedic performs technical and clinical duties within their scope of practice, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and procedures. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to patient safety, and a commitment to meeting the needs of patients and their families. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with physicians and registered nurses to provide technical support and optimize patient care. Monitor and report patient conditions and any changes to appropriate clinical staff. Assist with coordination of care, including hourly rounding, documentation, and maintaining communication boards. Provide bedside shift reports at the beginning and end of each shift. Support resuscitation efforts, including CPR and airway management (within scope and under physician supervision). Obtain and document vital signs; assist with cardiac monitoring, pulse oximetry, and blood pressure monitoring.
Perform technical procedures such as:
12-lead EKGs IV insertion and discontinuation Blood draws and specimen handling Point-of-care testing Assist with wound care, nasogastric tube placement, and orthopedic splinting/dressings. Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Administer medications within scope of practice and under physician supervision, in accordance with Colorado regulations. Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Promote open communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Uphold the mission, vision, and values of the organization while fostering a patient-centered approach to care.Qualifications Required:
Certification as a Paramedic in the State of Colorado upon hire Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hirePreferred:
Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience Required Within 6Months of Hire:
