Job Summary:
The AAK School Health Technician plays a vital role in supporting the health and well-being of students throughout the school day. This position works under the supervision of the district nurse and school administration to provide basic first aid, manage daily health needs, maintain health records, and support a safe and healthy school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide first aid and care to students who are ill or injured during school hours Administer medications according to school policies and physician orders Maintain accurate and confidential health records, including immunizations and daily care logs Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and healthcare professionals regarding student health needs via phone, email, and in person Support students with chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies) Monitor and report communicable illnesses and assist with health screenings Keep health office clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies Assist with the implementation of health-related plans (IEPs, 504s, etc.) Follow district/school policies and state regulations regarding student health and safety Manage the sensory break room during student breaks Diapering when supported by student health plan Participate in training and professional development as needed
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), or similar certification preferred Current CPR and First Aid certification required (or willingness to obtain) Experience working with children or in a school setting is highly desirable Strong communication, organization, and record-keeping skills Ability to remain calm in emergency situations and respond appropriately Knowledge of basic medical procedures and safety protocols
Working Conditions:
May require standing for long periods, occasional lifting (up to 70 lbs), and responding quickly to emergencies Regular interaction with students, families, and staff in a busy school environment
