Job Description

Are you fresh out of EMT/Paramedic school and want to gain valuable experience before you are thrust into 911 response? Are you currently in a 911 role and want something slower paced, with more predictable hours, but you dont want to go to renal round up? If any of these describe you, this is the job you want.
Job Summary:
The Interfacility Transfer (IFT) EMT/Paramedic provides safe, efficient, and compassionate medical transport for patients moving between healthcare facilities or being discharged from hospital settings. This role focuses on continuity of care, patient stability, and professional coordination with hospital staff, ensuring that each transfer meets clinical, legal, and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled patient transports between hospitals, specialty care centers, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, and private residences. Safely transport patients being discharged from hospitals, ensuring appropriate level of care during transit. Perform patient assessments before, during, and after transport; monitor vital signs and patient condition. Provide appropriate medical interventions within scope of practice (Basic Life Support or Advanced Life Support). Maintain clear communication with sending and receiving facilities, nurses, case managers, and dispatch. Accurately document patient care, transport details, and any changes in condition. Operate and maintain ambulances and medical equipment in a safe and clean condition. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies. Demonstrate professionalism and empathy when interacting with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
Required Qualifications:
Current EMT or Paramedic certification (state and/or National Registry, as applicable). Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Current CPR certification (BLS required; ACLS preferred for Paramedics). Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and physical examination.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in interfacility transport or hospital-based EMS services. Familiarity with discharge procedures and patient handoff protocols. Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills in non-emergent and semi-urgent settings.
Skills and Competencies:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Ability to work independently and as part of a coordinated healthcare team. Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Compassionate patient care approach, especially for vulnerable populations.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move patients and equipment (up to 100+ lbs with assistance). Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and sitting. Ability to work in various environmental conditions.
Work Environment:
Ambulance transport setting with frequent interaction in hospitals and healthcare facilities. Shifts MAY include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Additional Notes:
This position emphasizes patient comfort, continuity of care, and professionalism rather than emergency response. Providers must be comfortable managing stable but medically complex patients during transport and ensuring seamless transitions between care settings.
