Job Description

Join our team and play a vital role in keeping St. Charles prepared, safe, and running smoothly, both during everyday events and unexpected emergencies. This part-time and paid-for-response position works a minimum of 6 hours a month for the attendance at mandatory meetings at 6:00 PM on the 2nd and 4th Mondays each month. Must be available for 24/7 emergency callouts (flexibility is offered for those with full-time daytime employment). Additional hours are available at the discretion of the EMA Coordinator or as needed depending on special events, emergencies, and weather. In this hands-on, fast-paced role, you'll support the City's emergency preparedness and response efforts while also helping deliver services at community events. Assist with preparedness and mitigation efforts for natural, environmental, and man-made incidents Help activate and operate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Respond to emergency service requests and call-outs Support community events like festivals, parades, and public gatherings Staff the City Hall front desk during evening meetings Provide backup support for school crossing guards Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions twice per month and participate in training and planning Work outdoors in all weather conditions and physical activity is part of daily responsibilities High school diploma (or equivalent) Valid driver's license Strong verbal and written communication skills Basic computer proficiency (email, word processing, spreadsheets) Within one year of hire, National Incident Management System (NIMS) training, First Aid & CPR certification, Traffic control training, and Basic weather spotter training Familiarity with the street layout and geography of St. Charles preferred Lift up to 75 pounds and pass a comprehensive medical examination Must establish primary residency within 12 months in one of the following communities: St. Charles, Geneva, South Elgin, Batavia, Bartlett, Wayne, West Chicago, or Elburn To see what it is like to work for the City of St. Charles check out our YouTube Channel .
