Training/Orientation:
Day shift (40 hours/week) for 8-12 weeks, depending on experience Job Summary The OB Technician supports the Labor & Delivery team by assisting with obstetrical procedures, patient care, and unit operations. This role includes scrub responsibilities for cesarean sections, assistance with vaginal deliveries, and postpartum support, along with unit secretary-related tasks. The OB Tech plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, efficient, and patient-centered care environment for mothers and newborns. Major Responsibilities Assist with obstetrical procedures, including cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, vacuum extraction, forceps deliveries, tubal ligations, D&C procedures, circumcisions, and emergency OB-related surgeries. Scrub for procedures using aseptic technique, ensuring a sterile field and passing instruments and supplies. Prepare delivery and surgical areas according to provider preference and procedural requirements. Assist with direct patient care, including activities of daily living and comfort and safety needs. Perform postpartum tech and unit support/secretary responsibilities. Maintain stock and readiness of surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. Clean, maintain, and ensure functionality of equipment and procedural areas. Accurately document and communicate patient condition and updates to the care team. Collaborate with nursing staff, providers, and interdisciplinary teams to support procedures and emergency preparedness. Serve as a resource for training staff on equipment use and procedural support. Demonstrate age-appropriate care competencies and apply principles of growth and development across the lifespan. Qualifications Required Nurse Aide in good standing on the State Registry where practicing Completion of an accredited or approved Nursing Assistant training program Ability to complete on-the-job training Certification Required Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (AHA) within 6 months of hire (if required by department) Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Basic computer skills, including EMR systems and email Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to build rapport with patients, families, and care teams Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks Ability to multitask and work effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist and carry up to 40 lbs.
