Job Description

Job Summary Rural Rescue is a dedicated EMS provider specializing in safe, compassionate interfacility patient transports. We support hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare partners by ensuring patients receive continuous care during transfers for procedures, discharges, dialysis, or higher-level treatment. Position Summary The IFT EMS Provider is responsible for providing basic life support during non-emergency and scheduled interfacility transports. You will work as part of a two-person crew (or with a partner) to assess patients, monitor vital signs, maintain equipment, ensure patient comfort and safety, and complete thorough documentation. This role offers a more predictable schedule than traditional 911 EMS, with opportunities to build strong patient rapport and clinical assessment skills in a controlled environment. Key Responsibilities Respond to scheduled, time-sensitive, and occasional emergent interfacility transport requests in a timely, professional manner. Perform patient assessments, obtain vital signs, and monitor condition throughout transport. Provide BLS care within scope of practice, including oxygen administration, IV maintenance, medication assistance (per protocol), and support for medical equipment. Ensure patient safety, comfort, and dignity during stretcher transports. Safely operate and drive the ambulance in accordance with traffic laws, company policies, and defensive driving standards. Communicate effectively with sending/receiving facility staff, patients, families, and dispatch. Complete accurate, timely patient care reports (PCRs) and all required documentation in the electronic system. Perform daily vehicle and equipment checks, restocking, and cleaning to maintain operational readiness. Assist with lifting, moving, and securing patients while following proper body mechanics and safety protocols. Participate in ongoing training, quality improvement, and team meetings.
Qualifications & Requirements Certification:
Current state EMT-Basic or Paramedic licensure (National Registry preferred).
Experience:
Previous EMS experience preferred; new graduates with strong clinical skills may be considered. IFT experience is a plus but not required.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of accredited EMT/Paramedic program. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (must meet company insurance standards). Current CPR/BLS certification. Ability to lift and carry up to 150+ lbs with assistance and work in various weather/road conditions. Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills. Must pass background check. Preferred Skills Experience with electronic patient care reporting systems. Familiarity with common IFT patient types (e.g., post-surgical, chronic illness, dialysis, or stable critical care transfers). Ability to manage multiple tasks calmly during longer transports. Work Schedule & Benefits Full-time, part-time, or PRN positions available (day, evening, night shifts; weekends/holidays may be required). Physical & Work Environment This position involves frequent patient lifting/moving, exposure to biohazards, and periods of sitting/driving. It can be physically demanding but typically features fewer high-stress emergency scenes than 911 operations.
Pay:
From $18.50 per hour
Benefits:
Flexible schedule
Work Location:
In person
