Job Description

Nursing - Emergency Department Nursing - Emergency Department 6a-6p
Position Summary :
The ED Tech/Patient Sitter is responsible for attending the nursing station and performing clerical/reception duties. Will assist the RNs with patient care and cleaning of the rooms upon discharge. Provide direct observation and companionship to patients who require continuous supervision to ensure their safety and well-being. The role involves working closely with the nursing and medical staff to monitor the patient's condition, prevent harm, and assist with non-medical tasks as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
Patient Care :
Monitor patient as well as their condition and vitals, work directly the with the RN to provide necessary care.
Continuous Monitoring:
Provide constant 1:1, direct supervision of assigned patients to ensure their safety.
Patient Safety:
Prevent patients from self-harm, falls, or other injuries by maintaining a vigilant presence. Notifying RN of any signs or plans of self-harm patient has shared.
Communication:
Report any changes in the patient's behavior, condition, or needs to the nursing staff promptly.
Support:
Assist patients with basic needs such as eating, drinking, and personal hygiene, ambulation, as permitted by the care plan.
Companionship:
Offer emotional support and comfort to patients through conversation and interaction.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of observations and interactions with the patient. For those patient's requiring 1:1, document safety checks every 15 minutes Adherence to
Policies:
Follow all hospital policies and procedures, particularly those related to patient safety and confidentiality.
Team Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure a safe and supportive environment for the patient. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
Previous experience in a healthcare setting or in a role involving direct patient care is preferred.
Skills:
Strong observation and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills. Ability to remain calm and patient in stressful situations, de-escalation helpful. Empathy and a compassionate approach to patient care.
Certifications:
CNA Certification is preferred but not required. BLS Certification required.
Training:
