Job Summary:
The Emergency Department Technician is an essential member of the Patient-Focused Care Team. Performs patient care and other related duties with supervision following established policies and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry. Assist with preparing patients for examinations and treatments in the ED. Promptly communicates to professional partner or Emergency Department Provider any changes in patient vital signs or condition. Maintains patient confidentiality. Performs vital signs, Intake & Output, EKGs, Phlebotomy, and ear irrigation, collects specimens, applies hot/cold compresses, distributes water/food, and applies immobilizers, splints, slings, and crutches. Assists in patient transport and prep for admission and discharge. Answers call lights and communicates effectively with patients, families, peers, and others. Maintains and documents special patient precautions (15-minute and hourly checks, constant observation, etc.) within specified time frames. Assists in patient, belonging, room, unit, and metal detector searches. Assists with the use of seclusion and/or restraint, under the direction of an RN. Completes daily task list which includes: Stocking rooms and IV cart. Stocking linen and blanket warmer. Checking O2 tanks, restraints, sharps containers, wall suction, sterile supplies, and impervious gowns. Washing stretchers according to the schedule. Emptying trash and dirty linen. Preparation of supply list for the charge nurse. Clean utility room, waiting room, lounge, nurse's station, and supply closet. Maintains required certifications, annual compliance courses, and competencies. Supporting student learning is a shared responsibility. Every team member is expected to contribute to creating a welcoming environment and to actively assist students in their educational experience, regardless of their specific role. Other duties as consistent with this role. Job Requirements Job Knowledge and Skills Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained before completion of orientation. The ability to speak, read, write, and understand written instructions in English is required. Education and Experience High School Diploma/GED required. State Maine CNA or EMT-B Certification is required at the time of hire. Basic Life Support certification required.
