This Opportunity We are seeking a Daytime Emergency Response (ER) Technician to support field operations involving both hazardous and non-hazardous materials. In this role, you will be a critical part of maintaining operational readiness while providing both logistical and hands-on support to the Industrial Services (IS) Program and Facilities. Key Responsibilities Act as the Site Supervisor for daytime Emergency Response (ER) services, with occasional flexibility in daily work hours as needed. Time is typically split between ER activities (about 50%), preparation and logistical support for IS projects (25%), and overhead duties such as equipment maintenance and training (25%). Respond to and conduct appropriate hands-on ER cleanup activities for incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous materials to air, soil, surface and groundwater so they are performed in an efficient, safe and professional manner. Provide support to the waste transport and disposal (T&D) team for both emergency response (ER) projects and regular waste T&D services. Efficiently organize waste disposal operations in collaboration with internal and external clients to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Support setup and preparation for IS/ER projects, including staging equipment and supplies, tracking equipment and inventory usage, transporting and restocking rental equipment, and performing decontamination spot checks as needed. Conduct sampling and monitoring of hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes so that collected data is reliable and trustworthy. Prepare daily diaries, reports, field sketches, waste disposal documentation, post-incident closure reports of moderate complexity. Complete other documentation as needed to ensure all actions undertaken during an ER are accurate. Perform routine maintenance and service on equipment used for projects to ensure it remains in proper working condition. Maintain and train on ER and Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO) equipment to ensure it is used correctly and kept in proper working condition. Complete various IS/ER activities, including equipment checks and other assigned tasks, as directed by the ER Manager, IS Operations Manager, and/or Field Service Managers (FSM). Maintain clear and effective communication with internal and external stakeholders and leadership to support efficient completion of daily tasks, promptly address safety concerns, and share opportunities for improving service. Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals and comply with all safety, employee, and HR policies, procedures and practices so that assigned responsibilities are performed in a manner which meets Bay West expectation. Actively participate on an after-hour On-Call ER team — approximately one week every six to eight weeks. Occasionally assist as a Field Technician on IS service projects. Occasionally perform out-of-town projects lasting 2-5 days. Occasionally work on Saturday or Sunday. certification and any applicable refreshers Confined Space Entry (CSE) training and certification Possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving record, required Possess fundamental knowledge of operating hand and power tools and understanding equipment mechanics Ability to operate the following specialty pieces of equipment with basic efficiency: truck and trailer combination (under 26,000 pounds), skid loader, spill response watercraft, forklift, product transfer pumps, drum-head vacuum, etc. Basic knowledge of small engines, pumps, and blowers Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software Possess or have access to reliable means of transportation on a 24-hour basis Physical Requirements Ability to function in work environments that sometimes include high heat; high humidity; extreme cold; roadway traffic hazards; on water (boat operations) and confined spaces. Must be comfortable wearing a full-face respirator for extended periods of time. Adequate vision and hearing to safely see teammates hand signals and hear warning communication in low light. Substantial repetitive movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers (including reaching, grasping, twisting, pushing, and pulling). Walking on uneven surfaces & climbing stairs/ladders. Semi-frequent crouching, bending, stooping and twisting, occasionally in tight spaces. Sitting in a vehicle for up to three hours straight. Working while standing during a 12-hour workday. Frequently lifting up to 10 lbs. over an 8-hour period and occasionally up to 50 lbs. over a four-hour period. Occasionally lifting 3-6 diameter hoses that weigh approximately 20 pounds over the head onto hose racks. Managing a 55-gallon drum containing approximately 400 pounds of material onto a drum dolly, then moving the drum using the dolly.
