JOB SUMMARY
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for the assessment and basic management of medical, trauma and environmental emergencies under the supervision of on or off-line medical control. Assists with patient care, based on individual patient needs, acts within the scope of practice of an EMT-Basic and under the supervision of a Paramedic, Registered Nurse or Emergency Department Physician. Responds to emergency / non-emergency calls and transfers to provide efficient and immediate care to the ill and injured; and safely transports the patient to an appropriate medical facility. Maintains the ambulances and equipment in proper functioning condition and in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Assists and provides professional treatments and observations as directed for patient care in the Emergency Department and within the hospital facilities as continuation of care until transfer of care is completed. The primary responsibility of crew members is to have the ambulances ready to respond to the next call and to have reports completed prior to shift end. Must be visible and assisting in the Emergency Department (ED) and other nursing departments and skills performed within the levels of training. Availability and assignments to be directed and assigned from supervisor of assigned department. Such duties will include, but are not limited to, vital signs, EKGs, IV insertions, specimen collection, transfers to the floor (when able), cleaning and preparation of rooms, entering patient information into the EDM module, direct observation of patients as requested, rounding, and jobs that can assist in patient care and ED flow. Specific department policies and procedures should be followed. Attendance in ED training opportunities are encouraged as they arise in the department. These expectations and job assignments are subject to change as the needs of the hospital deem appropriate. Patient transfers to the floor or other assignments to additional locations that inhibit prompt ambulance response times should be limited. Precept, mentor and supervise students and new staff. Attend and participate in mandatory trainings or meetings, to include staff meetings and competencies, etc. PRN staff are required to attend all mandatory trainings and meetings as well as work a minimum of 3 shifts per 6 week schedule.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
1 Year of practical experience in Emergency Medical Services or related is preferred.
EDUCATION
High school graduate, HiSET or GED equivalent required. Successful completion of a DOT approved Emergency Medical Technician- Basic course is required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY
State of Montana Licensure required. National (NREMT) certification preferred. Current BLS Certification is required. Current Montana State unrestricted driver's license and excellent driving record is required, EVOC certification within one year of employment date. Completed EMT endorsement courses are preferred.

Demonstrated cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Demonstrated interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Demonstrated ability to receive and adapt to feedback and open to a changing environment, which requires flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Demonstrated ability to read and write in order to complete medical reports and basic arithmetic is required.
