Essential Functions Assist the nurse and physicians in examination and treatment of patients Obtain vital signs routinely and as needed (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations) Perform EKG and collection of blood specimens (must use proper procedure and have completed all required competencies) Point-of-care testing - perform finger-sticks for blood glucose monitoring (if critical results and an additional finger-stick is required, RN or MD only will perform an additional stick for further assessment) PCT will not draw a second finger-stick in response to critical results. Also, codes for POC equipment must be kept up-to-date and should not expire. (Failure to keep codes current will result of removal from the schedule until employee complies) Keep all hospital issued personal ID codes confidential and current Change patient bed linen, empty Foleys, and perform bed bath independently and with the RN and or MD as requested Must receive a verbal/written report from the RN prior to administering care of patient Must be able to document all patient care activities in the electronic medical record Must be able to maintain communications among health care team Must always be in proper uniform Must use proper body mechanics for self and when caring for the patient Must always keep patient safe Complete assigned duties as directed by the RN and or Nurse Manager Answer ALL call lights and assist patients as needed (ALL patients are everyone's responsibility) Assist patients with personal hygiene, toileting needs, grooming and assist with feedings (if appropriate) and keep patients NPO if required Must be in compliances with policies, procedures, regulations according to departmental standards Assist with patient mobility in and out of bed, assist with ambulation Patient safety monitoring as requested (one-to-one observation and or observation of line-of-sight orders) Provide emotional support, be empathetic and approachable Performing daily round on all patients independently and with Primary Nurse or Nurse Manager on the unit Orient, monitor and provide feedback for new hires Keep current with all education provided by the Education Department and Managers Be prepared and assist with preparation for all outside agency visits Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, and lift over 50 lbs. Must always be in proper uniform attire Perform service recovery and address patient and or visitor issues immediately Collect data and unit specific quality indicator measures Ensure patient rooms are organized, clean, orderly, and adequately stocked at par level with appropriate supplies Ensure that all waste material (ie. Linen, sharps, garbage, etc.) are disposed of properly & safely Maintain a safe and quiet environment Must always keep all equipment plugged-in and charged for immediate and ongoing use Must immediately report any malfunctioning equipment Perform safe techniques during all procedures Maintain patient rights and confidentiality according to organizational standards Must maintain open communications with the family, staff, patients, and physicians Perform all other duties as needed Other Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Minimum Education/Certifications Must have a High School Diploma and or GED, BA Preferred Must have EKG, Phlebotomy Certificate Must have BLS Certification (American Health Association for Healthcare) Must have great interpersonal, customer service skills, and telephone etiquette Minimum Work Experience 1 year or more inpatient psychiatry or substance abuse experience.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Non-exempt full-time regular business hours 37.5-hour work week and must be willing to work holidays, weekends and provide additional coverage as needed
