Days Position Summary:
Facilitate efficient functioning of service. Assist with patient preparation for surgery. Function as service coordinator with RN. Set up surgical tables, supplies and equipment. Ensure all tables, supplies and equipment are decontaminated for each surgery. Maintain fiscal responsibilities for keeping supply spending within budget constraints. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.Detailed responsibilities:
EQUIPMENT
- Set up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operations
PATIENT CARE
- Assist in preparing and draping of patient and operating area; prepare and maintain sterile field for surgical procedures DATA
- Maintain and assist with computerized data and charting, probing, and digital x-rays; maintain dental laboratory slips and check in lab cases
SPECIMENS
- Assist in maintenance and care of specimens; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES
- Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies
PATIENT CARE
- Assist with table equipment, patient positioning, and application of plaster casts and dressings
DOCUMENTATION
- Document all patient care activities
SPECIAL PROCEDURES
- Function as a service coordinator with RN for special procedure preparations
SPECIAL PROCEDURES
- Maintain suture levels and assist in high level surgical procedures including vascular/aneurysm surgical procedures
EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES
- Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments
ADMINISTRATION
- Update surgeon's preference cards
EQUIPMENT
- Maintain and ensure surgical equipment and instruments are in good working condition, and ready for patient care use STOCK
- Perform restocking duties as necessary
TRAINING
- Function as a preceptor for new technicians and technicians rotating through the area
DEVELOPMENT
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

- Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

- Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes

- Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk

- Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner

- Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
