Job Description
As a Patient Care Technician (PCT) at Nor-Lea Hospital District this position performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a manner that places emphasis on quality of care and customer service. Must work collaboratively with all clinical services staff in support of direct patient services, exhibiting competency in job duties. Patient services are the key priority in this position requiring the PCT to serve as a point of contact with other internal and external departments, all with the goal of fostering an environment which promotes patient comfort and trust. Employee is expected to arrive on time and may be required to float to any Nor-Lea Hospital District clinic. The position must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions, including the use and practice of AIDET and the service recovery model. Primary duties include patient care duties such as: Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight and temperature. Performs medication reconciliation, reporting patient history summary, Performs tests needed during visit i.e. finger sticks, oral and nasal swabs, urine testing, EKG, nebulizer, peak flow testing, etc., as ordered by provider. Completes documentation in electronic record, education of results as ordered by provider with supervision of provider or nurse. Performs other position related duties as assigned. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit, history of present illness, brief review of systems, medication reconciliation Prepares patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; performs tests needed during visit such as finger sticks, oral and nasal swabs, urine testing, EKG, nebulizer, peak flow testing as ordered by provider. This includes understanding/maintaining the QC process for each lab test per P&P. Provide patient education as ordered by provider or with supervision of nurse regarding, medications, management of disease, home treatments, diets, lab results. Monitor the patient for side effects, reactions, and effectiveness of treatment. Performs other position related duties as assigned. Keeps supplies ready by following expired supply process, inventorying stock in exam room and supply room, placing orders, verifying receipt. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence, by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding and keeping patient information confidential. Abides by all HIPAA regulations and Nor-Lea Hospital District clinic policies and procedures. Serves and protects the Medical Clinics practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements and participates in Quality Improvement in the department Collaborates toward strategic plan by monitoring expired, ordering accordingly to meet budget margin goals.
