Job Summary Performs a variety of clerical, clinical intake and other duties to provide support to physicians during patient care as well as contribute to department operations. Essential Functions Greets patients upon arrival, and room patients from waiting area to exam room using patient identifiers. Prepares examination rooms, cleaning and sterilizing surface areas and instruments/equipment using proper procedures. Take patient's height, weight, health history, vital signs and enter into patient's Epic EMR. Assist physicians and other practice providers with physical examinations and medical procedures by properly positioning the patients and monitoring vital signs during the procedures. Maintain medical supplies and inventory using approved procedures. Contribute/Assist with clerical procedures such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, making appointment confirmation calls, recording messages and completing forms, medical records and requests for lab tests and x-rays. Registers demographic information into appropriate billing/scheduling system as needed. Takes and records patient's height, weight, health history and vital signs including blood pressure and EKGs. Provides support to physicians during patient care (ex. rooming patients, medication reconciliation, assisting with office-based injections, etc.) Orders and maintains supplies for practice; ensures exam rooms are appropriately stocked. Maintains log books (ex. refrigerator temperature, etc.), notifies appropriate staff if abnormalities are documented. Appropriately labels specimens for laboratory analysis. Acts as backup for clerical and/or front desk staff. Enter new patient information into the EMR and maintain documentation in EMR. Retrieves patient demographic, insurance and clinical data from electronic health record as needed. Obtains authorizations for EMG, MRI, injections, office visits, etc. Answers phone calls, emails and EMR messages in a timely fashion. Obtains insurance referrals and authorizations for procedures as needed. Practices Standard Precautions. Follows regulations, policies and guidelines on the prevention of infections; does not eat or drink in patient care areas. Maintains confidentiality of information; abides by HIPAA regulations. Maintains a professional image and follows Hospital's policy on uniforms; consistently wears hospital ID. Demonstrates reliable, on-time attendance, which is an essential function of all jobs at Burke. Completes mandatory annual learning (Learning Harbor) within deadline. Personally adheres to Burke

Qualifications High School Required 1-3 years One-year prior work experience in a physician's practice or other medical setting Required 1-3 years Experience with Epic preferred. Preferred Demonstrated skill in customer relations to deal effectively with public and physicians Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform job duties Excellent interpersonal and telephone skills Ability to manage numerous tasks and prioritize appropriately. Ability to collaborate with other staff in a busy office environment to ensure a patient centered experience. Prior knowledge in use of electronic medical record systems; general skill and proficiency in use of computer software packages. Willingness and ability to quickly learn new skills. Knowledge and proficiency in the use of equipment found in a physician's office - EKG machine, centrifuge, autoclave, glucometer and similar point-of-care testing equipment, blood pressure equipment, scale with height measurement, fax, copy machine, computer workstation, POS device, ultrasound, EMG machine set up, EMR.
