Division/Program Summary:

The mission of the Bureau of Public Health Clinics is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. Position Summary:

The Public Health Advisor-II will conduct confidential patient interviews at a Sexual Health Center and report directly to the Express Clinic Manager.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Conduct confidential interviews in order to identify and bring for evaluation and/or treatment those contacts, suspects or associates at risk for STIs. 2. Provide education and risk reduction messages, emergency contraception and family planning referrals to patients. 3. May perform confidential field investigations per bureau protocol in order to refer patients, contacts, associates and suspects for exams and/or treatments. 4. Review with patient their reason for visit and what services they are there for to ensure patient is in the correct clinic. 5. Enter data and update information of patients into the EMR system. 6. Prepare and send specimen collection kits for individual patient testing. 7. Order tests in EMR. 8. Collect blood specimens for testing and performs HIV Rapid testing. and give patient results. 9. PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISER

• 51191 Minimum Qualifications 1.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twelve semester credits in health education, or in health, social or biological sciences; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and six months of full-time satisfactory experience in a health promotion or disease intervention/prevention program, performing one or more of the following: interviewing, conducting field investigations, assessing health risks, making referrals, or collecting and analyzing epidemiological data; or 3. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above; or 4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. Undergraduate college credit can be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of full-time experience. However, all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either twelve semester credits as described in "1" above or six months of experience as described in "2" above. To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements listed above, at least one year of experience as a Public Health Adviser, Assignment Level I, or at least one additional year of experience as described in Qualification Requirement "2" above. 55a Program This position is also open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a Program.
