Position:
(EMT) Basic Reports to:
Officers & Administrator Job Summary:
Functions independently, once credentialed by the Medical Director or designee, providing exceptional pre-hospital clinical medicine based on the Departments Scope of Care or protocol. Must be able to utilize electronic communication including portable and mobile radios, electronic patient care records, computer aid dispatching equipment, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Once cleared to independent duty, the EMT basic is required to manage medical and trauma patients, first responders and bystanders according to certification level, and must assist and take direction from the Crew Leader or designee. Must be able to maintain and trouble shoot medical equipment, keep equipment and vehicle clean, and ensure that the unit is always response ready.
Essential Duties:
  • Report for duty on time, when assigned, and response ready.
  • Maintain good physical condition and personal hygiene.
  • Ability to assess and treat patients up to designated certification level.
  • Lift 250 pounds with assistance.
  • Operate EMS vehicles under normal and emergent conditions.
  • Operate standard equipment, such as stretchers, cots, patient care monitors, and standard diagnostic equipment.
  • Extricate persons from vehicles, bend, lift, and perform CPR for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to handle extreme stress in crisis situations.
  • Be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Work assigned shifts, voluntary and mandatory overtime, when required, and attend all mandatory in-service training.
  • Adhere to Company Protocols, Policies and Procedures.
  • May occasionally be required to assist with non-ambulance medical transport (wheelchair and/or psychiatric vehicles).
Environmental Factors:
  • May work in inclement weather, including extreme heat and cold, as well as extreme wet or icy conditions.
  • Be available to report for duty in dangerous and severe weather such as ice storms, wind storms and flooding event.
  • Be able to work with, and under the direction of, other agencies during regional emergency response incidences.
  • Evening, weekend, and holiday hours are required.
Qualifications:
  • Required graduation from an accredited EMT program.
  • Must be licensed by the Texas Department of State Health Service as an EMT Basic
  • Must not have state sanctions or disciplinary restrictions.
  • Required Basic Life Support for Health care providers.
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license (must obtain by hire date).
  • Must possess thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of emergency care at the basic level.
  • Must be able to provide emergency care at the EMT Basic level under adverse conditions.
  • Must obtain system credentialing (as required by the Medical Director or designee) upon hire date.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate adequate documentation in the Modified Subjective, Objective Assessment, Plan, Events (SOAPE) and Electronic Patient Care Report (EPCR)
  • 1 year field experience is preferred.
  • Must be proficient with computer keyboard, use of word processing, (Mobile Data Terminal).
Salary:
Will be discussed with the Administrator and is individually determined based on experience.
