APA is the only health care safety net program of its kind in Alaska, coordinating donated specialty care for uninsured Alaskans with limited financial resources. APA increases access to health care by recruiting and maintaining a network of dedicated and compassionate volunteer providers who donate services through our medical, dental, and mental health counseling programs. Our team works collaboratively to remove barriers to care and connect patients with critical health services they otherwise may not be able to access. We are seeking a compassionate and driven Mental Health Coordinator to join our team and help expand access to behavioral health and specialty care services across Alaska. Position Summary Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Mental Health Coordinator provides effective coordination of APA's Mental Health Counseling Program. This position plays a key role in connecting patients with donated specialty care services while building strong relationships with providers and community partners. The Mental Health Coordinator coordinates donated specialty care services for mental health counseling, neurology, and sleep study referrals, supports patient enrollment, conducts program screenings, manages referral workflows, and ensures timely processing of incoming documents. This position also supports the growth and sustainability of the Mental Health Counseling Program through provider recruitment, community outreach, and ongoing program evaluation. The ideal candidate demonstrates empathy, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail while communicating effectively with patients, healthcare providers, and community partners. The ability to foster collaborative relationships and provide patient-centered care coordination is essential. Key Responsibilities Program Coordination & Administration Coordinate daily operations and workflows for APA's Mental Health Counseling Program Maintain and update program policies and procedures as needed Track program outcomes, grant deliverables, and performance metrics for reporting and evaluation Maintain accurate program records and prepare reports as requested Identify opportunities for process improvement and support ongoing program development Client Screening, Enrollment & Care Coordination Process incoming faxes, referrals, and medical documentation Conduct patient-centered program screenings to determine eligibility, service needs, and appropriate referral pathways Create and maintain patient records, and update documentation in APA's database system Coordinate donated specialty care services for mental health counseling, neurology, and sleep study referrals Enroll, re-enroll, and disenroll clients as appropriate Match clients with appropriate providers and coordinate appointments Follow up with patients and providers to support successful connection to care Provider Recruitment & Community Outreach Recruit and maintain relationships with volunteer mental health providers Communicate with donating providers to support engagement and track donated services Conduct outreach activities to promote the Mental Health Counseling Program and increase provider and community awareness Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase Mental Health Counseling Program enrollment and connect eligible clients with services Identify community needs, trends, and opportunities to expand program impact Data Management & Documentation Maintain accurate client and provider information in APA's database system Complete regular data reviews to ensure documentation accuracy Track program activity, referrals, and resource utilization for reporting purposes Maintain confidentiality and follow organizational policies related to patient information Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in mental health, human services, health care, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in case management, care coordination, referral coordination, intake, or related healthcare role Experience working in or with nonprofit organizations preferred Skills & Competencies Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients, providers, and community partners Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills within established guidelines Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to work effectively in a culturally responsive and trauma-informed environment Technical Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) Experience with electronic health records (EHR), CRM, or database systems preferred Additional Requirements Ability to attend occasional work-related events, outreach activities, or community functions Reliable and dependable with the ability to consistently meet work responsibilities and deadlines Must pass a criminal background check Must have a valid driver's license
