  • POSITION SUMMARY
  • This position is accountable for leading, managing and directing assigned responsibilities and functions that contribute to the operational and financial success of the hospital clinical laboratory.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • DIRECTLY
REPORTING
  • Provides direct supervision to 1-2 administrative staff and up to 8 to 10 technical staff.
  • MATRIX OR INDIRECT REPORTING
  • Depending upon facility location 25 to 150 technical staff.
  • TYPE OF SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Directs personnel actions and/ or overseeing recruiting, new hire actions, interviewing and selection of new staff, salary determinations, training, and personnel evaluations. Ensures department expenditures are in line with annual budget requirements. Oversees work schedule and daily activities of department staff.
  • SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY
  • Administrative responsibility of providing quality, timely, reliable and consistent services.
Internal customers include laboratory staff, hospital staff, pathologists, and medical directors. External customers are physician's offices, patients, vendors, regulatory agencies and educational facilities. Has freedom to determine how to best accomplish functions within established procedures, guidelines and within budget restrictions. Confers with Vice President, Hospital Laboratory Operations and Senior Administrative Laboratory Director as necessary.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT FACTORS
  • Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking.
May be required to lift up to 20 pounds. Must use standard precautions due to threat of exposure to blood and body fluids. Needs adequate color vision. Requires significant use of a computer, phone and general office equipment. Needs adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects. Ability to communicate effectively. May require off-site travel.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • + Must possess a strong knowledge of business and/or healthcare as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in business, health care administration or related field.
+ Must be qualified as a technical supervisor OR as a general supervisor depending on the specific site or discipline, as defined under
CLIA '88
regulations. + Must have four (4) years leadership experience with direct reports and management level responsibility. + A significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures of different software programs is required. + Oral/written communication skills, analytical/strategic skills. + Must possess the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. + Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
