Arizona Arthritis & Rheumatology Associates, P.C. is the largest private Rheumatology practice in the United States. The practice has over 60 providers, 15 sites and over 350 employees providing assessment and treatments for our rheumatology patients. We are a seeking an ambitious, friendly, positive, and compassionate Infusion Director to join our team. The Director of Infusion Therapy is accountable for the full clinical and operational performance of infusion services, leading with a focus on safe, efficient, and high-throughput care delivery. This role owns chair utilization, nursing productivity, and patient experience end-to-end
  • ensuring that every available clinical hour is maximized, every patient treated on time, and every infusion administered to the highest standard of safety and quality.
The Director drives operational excellence across a defined KPI framework spanning throughput efficient, clinical quality, staff performance, and patient satisfaction, while actively cultivating strong, collaborative relationships across departments. By fostering open communication and shared accountability with cross-functional partners, the Director ensures seamless care coordination, and creates an integrated clinical environment where all teams are aligned around the patient experience. This role serves as a key bridge between infusion operations and the broader organization, utilizing interdepartmental communication necessary to build a scalable infusion model that supports organizational growth and long-term competitive advantage. The Director of Infusion Therapy is held accountable to a comprehensive performance framework that spans clinical, operational, and patient-centered outcomes.
Key performance indicators include:
Chair Utilization Rate (85-92%)
  • Measures filled infusion hours against total available chair hours, serving as the primary driver of infusion revenue and a direct indicator of capacity performance. (Filled infusion hours / Total available chair hours) Infusions per Chair per Day (2.5
  • 4.5+ based on drug mix)
  • Reflects the core throughput of the department, capturing the effectiveness of scheduling and day-to-day operational efficiency. On-Time Infusion Start Rate (greater than 90%)
  • Tracks whether infusions begin as scheduled, directly influencing daily patient flow, reducing bottlenecks, and driving patient satisfaction. Average Infusion Cycle Times
  • Measured from patient arrival through infusion completion, with a goal of continuous optimization (reduction where appropriate) to increase daily patient capacity without the addition of physical chairs. Nursing Productivity
  • Evaluated by patients per RN per day or nursing hours per infusion, ensuring staffing levels are appropriate to demand while protecting margins and preventing staff burnout. Clinical Quality Score (Top Quartile)
  • Encompasses adverse event rates, medication error rates, and infection rates, representing a non-negotiable baseline that safeguards patients and supports organizational reputation and scalability. Patient Experience (greater than 90th Percentile)
  • Captures wait times, comfort, staff interaction, and overall satisfaction, serving as a driver of patient retention, referrals and long-term competitive positioning. Interdepartmental Collaborations
  • Actively partners with pharmacy, scheduling, physician practices, billing, and administrative leadership to ensure seamless care coordinator, reducing operational friction, and aligning with other teams around shared clinical and operational goals. Timely Communication Standards
  • Responsible for maintaining consistent, proactive, and transparent communication across departments, ensuring that critical clinical updates, operational changes, and patient-related concerns are escalated and addressed promptly and effectively. Team Attrition & Retention Goals
  • Accountable for maintaining a stable, engaged nursing and clinical support team by fostering a positive work environment, addressing burnout proactively, and meeting defined staff retention benchmarks that protect continuity of care and operational performance. Operational Meeting Participation
  • Expected to actively participate in regular operational, leadership, and interdisciplinary meetings, contributing to clinical insight, performance updates, and solutions oriented thinking to drive continuous departmental improvement. Strategic Planning & Reporting

Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Active in-state Nursing licensure in good standing Advanced clinical knowledge of infusion therapy, IV access, and biologic/specialty drug administration Strong understanding of pharmacology related to infusion therapies Competency in recognizing and managing infusion reactions Working knowledge of infection prevention and safety control protocols Proficiency in EHR systems Ability to develop, implement, and monitor operational KPIs and performance metrics Strong staffing, scheduling and workforce management skills Budget management, and financial accountability experience Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills Patient-centered approach with strong advocacy skills Desirable Experience developing and enforcing clinical policies and procedures Experience in specialty infusion settings Experience with prior authorization and specialty pharmacy coordination
