Position Summary:
We are seeking a Clinical Patient Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between patients, providers, and insurance companies. This position coordinates appointments, verifies insurance benefits, obtains authorizations, and ensures patients understand treatment plans and follow-up instructions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient Coordination Schedule consultations, procedures, and follow-up visits Register new patients and update demographic and insurance information Confirm appointments and provide preparation instructions Coordinate referrals to specialists, laboratories, and imaging centers Insurance and Financial Support Verify insurance eligibility and benefits Obtain prior authorizations and referrals Explain patient financial responsibilities Collect copayments and outstanding balances Clinical Support Communicate physician orders and treatment plans to patients Track lab results, prescriptions, and follow-up tasks Maintain patient records in electronic medical record (EMR) systems Coordinate with nursing and clinical staff regarding patient needs Customer Service Answer phone calls, portal messages, and emails Address patient concerns with professionalism and empathy Escalate urgent medical issues to licensed clinical staff Compliance and Documentation Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and California privacy laws Document all patient communications accurately Follow OSHA and infection-control procedures when working in clinical environments Qualifications Education High school diploma or GED required Associate degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field preferred Experience 1-3 years of experience in a medical office, clinic, or hospital preferred Experience with insurance verification and authorization processes Skills Knowledge of medical terminology Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or athenahealth Strong organizational and communication skills Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment Proficiency with Microsoft Office Certifications (Optional but Preferred) Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) Certified Patient Care Coordinator (CPCC) California-Specific Requirements Knowledge of California insurance programs such as Medi-Cal and Covered California Understanding of California labor laws, including meal/rest breaks and overtime Compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) when applicable If duties include clinical tasks such as taking vital signs or administering medications, additional certifications (e.g., Medical Assistant certification) may be required.
