We are seeking an experienced dialysis Director of Clinical Operations (DCO) to provide strategic leadership to our clinical team. This pivotal role supports our mission to deliver superior dialysis treatment experiences and reports directly to the VP of Operations. The DCO will collaborate extensively with administrative staff, registered nurses, certified hemodialysis technicians, physicians, the governing body, patients, and their families. We prioritize patient education and exceptional service, expecting each team member to embody our values of compassionate, high-quality, personalized care. Summary of Responsibilities The Director of Clinical Operations oversees clinical operations, with attention to growth and resource allocation. This role develops and evaluates the Clinical Department's operations in accordance with company objectives and relevant State and Federal regulations, working to meet clinical, operational, and financial targets while ensuring the implementation of policies, procedures, and management systems. Responsibilities include managing the budgeting process, collaborating with senior leadership on forecasts and financial plans, controlling costs related to staffing and clinical supplies, and implementing measures to support operational efficiency and patient care standards. The position also involves identifying cost-saving opportunities and adjusting strategies in response to changes in reimbursement rates and market conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and promote facility policies and procedures
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Plan, organize, and independently execute work assignments efficiently
  • Coordinate patient admissions, transfers, and discharges for seamless transitions
  • Direct and oversee utilization of Medicare, Medi-Cal, and HMO contracts
  • Supervise interdisciplinary patient care plan conferences
  • Oversee documentation within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and manage scheduled audits
  • Lead compliance and corrective action initiatives during State and Federal surveys
  • Develop and update Nursing Policy and Procedure Manuals as required
  • Foster collaborative relationships with the Medical Director, physicians, managers, and clinical coordinators
  • Uphold core company values and a culture of excellence
  • Promote high standards of customer service
  • Cultivate teams focused on compassion, awareness, and dedication to patient well-being
  • Ensure provision of efficient, high-quality clinical services
  • Collaborate with management to resolve patient grievances
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key customers, including Kaiser, HMOs, PPOs, and other partners
  • Clinical Oversight
  • Ensure achievement of clinical quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) across multiple sites
  • Maintain rigorous regulatory compliance with State and Federal mandates, including CMS Conditions for Coverage and DHS Guidelines
  • Oversee facility hemodialysis treatments, adhering to approved protocols
  • Enforce stringent infection control procedures
  • Participate in patient-care conferences, medical rounds, and chart reviews as assigned
  • Ensure compliance with physician orders and correct setup of dialysis machines and supplies
  • Verify accurate documentation of medications and charge items in EMR
  • Conduct facility audits and mock surveys to ensure safety and regulatory adherence
  • Administrative Oversight
  • Communicate effectively and collaboratively with all staff and management levels
  • Advance quality management through education, staff involvement, and in-service programs
  • Conduct regular staff and educational meetings (monthly)
  • Ensure timely QAPI and Governing Board meetings
  • Administer personnel matters, including performance evaluations, payroll approvals, counseling, and discipline
  • Manage orientation and ongoing training for clinical staff
  • Ensure prompt and accurate data submission to agencies such as ESRD Networks
  • Oversee medication inventory, equipment maintenance, and supply levels
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, occurrence reporting, and emergency preparedness protocols
  • Work closely with Bio-Med Tech to maintain a safe, sanitary environment and equipment upkeep
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance, providing support for both operational and patient-related matters Business & Strategic Planning
  • Oversee financial operations and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Participate in budget planning and resource allocation decisions
  • Coordinate patient scheduling to ensure timely admissions and adequate staffing
  • Monitor staffing ratios and scheduling according to company standards
  • Drive organic growth and contribute to business development efforts
  • Build and sustain relationships with physicians, hospitals, payers, case managers, and other stakeholders
  • Explore innovative practices to enhance competitiveness and service differentiation
  • Manage staffing to fulfill patient needs, regulatory requirements, and budgetary guidelines Qualifications
  • Master's degree (required)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license, active and in good standing in California (required)
  • 10-20 years of clinical nursing experience in dialysis or renal care
  • 10-20 years of prior leadership or management experience in dialysis or renal care
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and leadership abilities
  • Proven capability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively within collaborative environments
  • Comprehensive understanding of State and Federal regulations applicable to dialysis facilities
