This role partners closely with hospital-based physicians, PCPs, specialists, operational leadership, care management teams, and internal departments to improve patient outcomes, strengthen physician engagement, enhance continuity of care, and support value-based care initiatives throughout the region. The Assistant Regional Medical Director functions as a physician leadership extension of the Regional Medical Director and actively participates in operational initiatives involving: Length of stay (LOS) reduction Readmission reduction Avoidable admission reduction Care transition optimization Physician engagement and alignment High-risk member management Regional clinical operations improvement
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Physician Engagement & Leadership Develop and maintain strong relationships with hospitalists, specialists, PCPs, and physician leadership teams throughout the region. Support physician alignment with organizational clinical, operational, and utilization initiatives. Participate in physician engagement meetings, provider outreach, and interdisciplinary operational discussions. Assist in addressing physician concerns, operational barriers, and escalation issues affecting patient care and regional performance. Promote collaboration between inpatient and outpatient providers across the continuum of care. Clinical Operations & Care Coordination Participate in hospital rounds and operational meetings alongside the Regional Medical Director and hospital teams. Collaborate with hospitalists, case management, social services, and post-acute teams to support efficient care coordination and discharge planning. Assist in identifying and resolving barriers to discharge, placement, and continuity of care. Participate in complex patient case discussions and escalation management as needed. Support operational initiatives focused on improving throughput, transitions of care, and regional utilization performance. Population Health & Performance Improvement Assist in identifying utilization trends, operational gaps, and opportunities for improvement. Participate in initiatives aimed at reducing: Avoidable admissions Readmissions Excessive LOS Avoidable ER utilization Collaborate with Case Management, Behavioral Health, and operational teams on high-risk member management initiatives. Review utilization and operational performance data and assist with implementation of corrective action plans and improvement initiatives. Leadership & Strategic Support Serve as a physician operational extension of the Regional Medical Director across regional initiatives and physician engagement efforts.
Collaborate closely with:
Director, Ambulatory Care Operations Regional Director, Clinical Operations Inpatient and Outpatient Case Management Prior Auth Department Quality Management Network Management Participate in regional meetings, hospital meetings, JOCs, and operational strategy discussions as appropriate. Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, professionalism, and patient-centered care.
