Summary of Position:
Responsible for organizing the day-to-day functions of the Behavioral Health Outpatient program, which include coordination of all outpatient services such as scheduling, insurance billing, order entry, filing and registration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs initial request for outpatient services intake including pre-registration and scheduling. Also processes all initial orders including scheduling and obtaining insurance pre-authorization as needed. 2. Reviews insurance information and verifies with patient including payment options. 3. Verifies insurance coverage with third party payors. Obtains pre-authorization when needed. 4. Prepares all necessary paperwork in advance, and obtains medical records. Arranges transportation requests as needed for scheduled visits and for Masonicare community residents/patients who have referred medical appointments elsewhere. 5. Schedules and coordinates patient appointments for long-term care residents and Outpatients. Adjusts schedules, as needed, to accommodate patient/resident requests and/or physician or staff schedules. 6. Establishes and maintains patient files and records on an ongoing basis. Maintaining HIPAA compliance at all times. 7. Registers residents/patients on arrival, coordinates and/or monitors flow of patients for various clinics, utilizing aids and volunteers. 8. Communicates effectively and tactfully with residents/patients recognizing their age, needs, abilities and physical conditions. 9. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. 10. Maintains a working knowledge of Medicare regulations as it pertains to Outpatient Services. Works within established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assessment and improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control. 11. Communicates with other departments, physician offices and long-term care units to maintain effective working relationships. 12. Performs other duties as required.
