Job Description
Overview The Ambulatory Administrator reports to the applicable service line department director or VP and department chair/chief. This position will ensure quality and safe delivery of ambulatory health care services in a customer and results oriented manner Responsible for day-to-day clinical and non-clinical operations and coordinating the provision of ambulatory health care services in multiple primary and specialty care offices. Ensures that the services reflect the philosophy and standards of the providers and organization. Also responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating ambulatory health care provider services, programs and activities. Serves as a liaison between the offices, the offices of Ambulatory Services and Planning and Development, Shands Jacksonville, and the various on and off campus departments. Responsibilities Works with the Associate Chairs, Medical Directors, Division Directors and organizational management staff to develop long and short-term objectives for ambulatory services and each practice, consistent with the philosophy and mission of the organizations. Works together with Physician Leaders to establish standards of ambulatory care and performance regarding responsiveness to physician and patient customers, effectiveness of support systems and appearance of physical facilities. Develops and recommends strategic and operational plans and operating policies in a cost-effective and customer-oriented manner. Implements endorsed actions and policies and monitors progress. Produces capital and operating budgets in concert with the Associate Chairs, Medical Directors, Senior Management, and Finance. Implements and monitors approved budgets. Reviews monthly financial statements with the Associate Chairs and Medical Directors. Responsible for the cooperative planning of new ambulatory offices, renovation and improvement of facilities and establishing systems that ensure efficient and cost-effective utilization of resources, space, materials and personnel. Promotes financial viability of ambulatory services and programs through appropriate budgeting and monitoring of financial performance related to pricing strategies, revenues, expenditures, and resource management. Oversees and/or directs employee management activities within ambulatory care areas including interviewing, hiring, training, counseling, and disciplinary actions. In conjunction with management, Finance, and Business Groups, ensures that ambulatory managed care opportunities are coordinated to maximize third-party reimbursement. Works closely with Physician Leaders to facilitate ambulatory care goals in an efficient and effective manner. If a licensed nurse, may conduct nursing activities for which he/she maintains competency. Performs all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.
Qualifications Required Education:
Bachelor's degree. Specific course work:
Business Administration, Allied Health, Health Care Management, etc. Related work experience may be substituted on a year for-year-basis in lieu of a Bachelor's degree. Preferred Education:
Master's Degree. Necessary Skills:
1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 2. Ability to communicate and/or relate effectively, clearly and concisely to all levels of the clinical and administrative structure. Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 3. Proficiency in planning, organizing and operationalizing ambulatory patient care services into collaborative action plans. 4. Ability to develop key issue consensus among clinicians and administrators within the organization. 5. Knowledge of data processing and information systems related to ambulatory care settings. 6. Demonstrated understanding and appreciation for the perspective of academic and private physicians and extenders. 7. Demonstrated ability in application of organizational/communication skills. 8. A vision for excellence in ambulatory care, teaching and research. Required Experience:
Two to five (2-5) years progressively responsible administrative experience in an applicable ambulatory health care facility which includes working knowledge of billing and/or reimbursement, management of clinical and non-clinical staff and working with physicians, demonstrating management and leadership expertise. Preferred Experience:
Additional years at the senior management level may be substituted for years of college training. Supervision:
Supervisory Responsibility for 5 - 50 employees. Budgetary Responsibility:
Responsible for annual budget of $200,000 - $3,000,000. Qualifications:
