32803Job Description:
Addresses and responds to patient non-clinical questions and email correspondence from hospital staff, administrators, and physician offices, securing necessary information and resolving issues promptly. Collaborates with Neurosurgeon's assistants, Radiation Oncologists, and Gamma Knife Operations Manager to schedule patients for Gamma Knife procedures and consultations. Verifies benefits and obtains insurance authorization for all patients receiving Gamma Knife, informs physician practices and Gamma Knife Operations Manager of any benefit problems, and answers insurance benefit/authorization questions for patients and families. Updates computer systems with all necessary information related to insurance benefits and authorizations, and documents the authorization and verification of benefits in the patient's chart. Contacts physicians to arrange peer-to-peer discussions as necessary. Assists with weekly multidisciplinary Tumor Board preparation and post Tumor Board tasks. Orders clinical and clerical supplies for the department. Other duties as assigned. Communicates necessary patient information to the nursing staff. Schedules Gamma Knife patients for follow-up imaging and appointments as per physician orders, and obtains and uploads images as necessary. Oversees scanning of all procedure documents and notes into Cerner and Aria after the procedure is completed. Serves as clinical aid/assistant during Gamma Knife procedures when necessary, and coordinates nutrition and transportation orders for the day of the procedure.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to use discretion when discussing personnel/patient-related issues that are confidential in nature.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to be a part of a team.
- Ability to speak confidently with physicians and leadership.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to make decisions and act quickly in a variety of situations.
- Ability to function in a flexible capacity and multi-task effectively.
- Computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with moderate to advanced computer skills required.
- Knowledge of healthcare billing processes, privacy regulations, insurance verification, and authorization process.
- Proficient in the use of personal computers, copier, phone, and facsimile machines.
- High level of multitasking, organization, and proactive communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact and deal with challenging situations in dealing with patients and families in a tactful, calm, and professional manner.
- Required to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to manage multiple details and tasks under busy and stressful working conditions.
- Knowledge of various healthcare-related software and systems, including but not limited to Epic, Cerner, Aria, and Sunport, with a basic understanding of PowerScribe and PowerShare preferred.
Education:
- Associate [Preferred]
Field of Study:
- Associate's Degree in healthcare field
Preferred Work Experience:
- 1+ administrative support in a healthcare setting [Required]
