In this role, you'll be at the center of both clinical coordination and family support-helping ensure a smooth patient experience while also guiding families through the surgical journey.

6:30 PM Consistent rotation designed to support team collaboration and patient flow What You'll DoKeep the Unit Running Smoothly Maintain supply levels, downtime folders, and ensure family lounge readiness Perform unit audits, reconcile charges (including specialty items), and monitor noise/quiet time Ensure compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA, and safety standards Support Patients & Families Support the Surgical Family Lounges at Montefiore and Presbyterian Provide a calming, welcoming environment for families during the surgical process Offer real-time updates and communicate throughout each stage of surgery Coordinate post-surgery connections between surgeons and families Help families understand next steps with clarity and compassion Be the Communication Hub Manage calls, paging systems, faxes, and unit communications Greet and assist patients, visitors, physicians, and staff Maintain accurate patient records and enter physician orders Utilize systems like eRecord, Bedboard, TeleTracking, and more Coordinate scheduling of tests, procedures, and patient transport Support Daily Operations Troubleshoot and maintain office equipment (computers, printers, fax, etc.

Knowledge of medical terminology and computer applications. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Completion of a Certified Health Unit Secretary course preferred. In the course of duties may be asked to distribute medications to the nurse at the bedside. Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
